Radiator noise

    Hi,

I have a couple of radiators in the house that make a tapping noise regularly that is quite loud particularly in the bedroom. I have tried changing the amount of flow into the radiator and have turned it off completely. This reduces the tapping sound to a lower amount but is still audible. The heat is electric in the house.

Can anyone advise if this tapping noise can be fixed by a plumber or is it an issue in the pipes behind the radiators, if so can anything be done to fix this?

    Thanks

Most likely the radiator hangers. If caused by flow, it will happen when rads are still cool eg during cold start. Can be fixed, but best to get plumber or handyman to do it.

Please follow site and charter rules. "Resistance is futile"

Yeah, little plastic clips that sit on the hangers may be missing, thus metal on rad expanding and moving on metal hanger.

Ok thanks, where would I be able to purchase these. Are they easy enough to fit?

    Slightly concerned fusing post.
You mention radiators but also mention you have electric heating.

    Can you post a pic?

Sorry, it's just normal radiators. We have solar panels but the rads in the house are all standard.

Where would I be able to get these radiator hangers, are they white clips?

Could someone PM me a decent plumber who could help me with this in the Dundrum/Sandyford area.

The radiator rubbing on the brackets is possibly making the noise.
Here are the radiator bracket inserts:
    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PACK-OF-10-RADIATOR-BRACKET-ANTI-VIBRATION-PLASTIC-INSERTS-/171216627429

But It also could be radiator pipes rubbing off a floor joist or floorboard. Where the radiator pipes come up through the floor, is the floorboard tight against the pipe ?(there should be some clearance.)

Thanks, are these easy to fit or do you require a plumber to fit them properly. The radiator pipes sit off the floor and aren't in contact with the floorboards.

They would require the radiator to be removed really.
