Hoover & Candy Review

About 14 months ago I purchase and new Hoover 9kg Condenser Tumble Dryer.  It cost €350 so it was quite the investment. I also got the guarantee on parts for 5 years which I felt good about in case any issues should arise.

But after only 13 months the dryer was struggling to start. It turns out it was just a capacitor and it would need to be changed.  So I started the process of calling Hoover and arranging for them to send a repair man out to fix the dryer. At the end of the phone call I was asked for payment and I couldn’t believe that the call-out charge was a massive €120.  I said no thank you and that a local guy will call out for €50 and replace the part for only a few euros.
Just before I called a local repair guy to come out to fix the dryer it developed another issue. It seems the bearings that hold the drum in place have worn which has damaged the drum slightly. It has the sound of scraping metal on each rotation of the drum. I Googled the cost of a new drum and it’s so expensive is not even worth replacing.

I’m at a point now I don’t know what to do as I think I’m going to have to buy a new dryer and the one I have is only 14 months old.

I know Hoover don’t have a good reputation but I thought I would be ok with the parts guarantee but that has not been the case. Hoover also makes Candy and I can’t see myself ever buying a Hoover/Candy product ever again.

I’m just putting this out there so other potential customers can make their own decisions. But it is best to read some reviews before making such a large purchase.

Basically, most if indeed not all, so called warranties are not worth the paper they are written on.!!

Tbone 12333 seeing as your dryer is barely more than a year old maybe you should call in to your local Citizens Info. Office and get their advice, then ring your retailer where you got the appliance armed with info and get him to get the problem sorted free of charge with Hoover, any mention of the small claims court will get them to get a move on

As it's only 14m old, your first port of call should probably have been the retailer anyway. That is who you have a contract with.

I would go to the retailers. You would expect a washer dryer at the cost of €350 to last longer. You should be entitled to the 3 Rs, repair, replacement and refund. Dont buy another Hoover Candy. The quality is horrific and they are not an investment.
