Might be moving home in the next few months, if i move out the country i ll get back into golf, looking for a recommendation of a good course/club near Endenderry. what im looking for is small practice facility and kid friendly so i ll be able to bring my 7 year old in the summer evenings

There is a course in Edenderry itself can't vouch for it but do know it can get quite wet during the Winter,

I live close to Edenderry myself. There are plenty of options depending on your budget. Closest are Edenderry, Highfield, both are cheap but very ordinary. Wouldn't recommend either.

    Other options:

Castlebarna, Daingean (15 minutes drive)- I was a member here for nearly 10 years. Left just over a year ago as I wanted more of a challenge. OK course, practice facilities almost non-existent. Great membership though, good bunch. Great atmosphere in the place. Full membership 500, no hello money.

Moyvalley (20 minutes)- Decent course and apparently they are investing a lot. Wide open, designed to be an inland links. Practice facilities very good.

Rathcore (25 minutes)- Excellent course but they are in real trouble. Others on here can probably give latest situation.

Mullingar (25 minutes)- Again excellent course, decent facilities too. Not sure how easy it is to get in here.

New Forest (25-30 minutes)- My new course. Excellent as well, very tough in the summer. Practice facilities really good too. Full membership 699, no hello money.

Edenderry is your man, good track IMO, good practice facilities, nice pint of stout, decent grub and very friendly. I have played it plenty of times and yes it gets wet in the winter but so do a lot of courses in Ireland. Highfield is a fun golf course with some really interesting holes. The closest half decent course is best if you want to involve and not discommode family.

You'll only be 40 mins away from Naas or Tullamore as well.

I'm a member of Castle Barna if you want to go for a round any weekend and have a look.

Played moyvalley today for the first time in about 4 years and I have to say it is in exceptional condition for the time of year. They have excellent practice facilities and the clubhouse and bar are first class.

I was a member in rathcore for years and I'm strongly thinking of joining moyvalley myself as it ticks all the boxes for me, plus they are investing money into the course which is great

I've only played Edenderry once but it's still pound for pound the worst golf course I've ever played, when you factor cost, quality of the course, overall vibe, clubhouse facilities etc. Course needs a big lift in terms of upkeep. I remember this big dark, dank, empty club house...almost nobody else around. They weren't very nice either. That was only once though which is not always fair but it's the one experience I have of the place.

Played Moyvalley once and it felt like a real boom time course that needed to mature. It could be very good at this stage.

I've played castle barna a good few times as its on my way home to the folks. It's really excellent, very nice atmosphere, solid golf course, nice little clubhouse with good food and very good value for money. Green fees are like €15. I think Kevin Markham said in his book that every county should have a castle barna. What you see is what you get, very down to earth kinda place.

I played there last summer and it was in great nick. The clubhouse was very good too, and the staff couldn't have been nicer. Worth a look.
