Audit: membership to confirm we have 300 members by an accountancy or other professional practice certified to carry out 'public audit' work.

During a detailed conversation with one practice who quoted us they said they would need to randomly sample 10% of the membership; so in short the work only requires 30 emails to be sent out and results confirmed - about 3hrs work.

Any ideas, suggestions, contacts you might have at all would be most gratefully received.

There is possibly a misunderstanding as to the scope of the audit if someone is billing €5,000 for 30 e-mails.
Either that or it requires some ass out exposure. IE if its wrong the auditor is liable for something.
Do you have a copy of the terms of reference of the audit (ie the document that requires you be audited?)
Does there have to be a 50 page auditor report and the only sample is available in pdf so it needs to be retyped in full.
If someone is charging €5,000 there is definitely a misunderstanding of some sort either on your part or their part. Mind you chasing a circularisation for responses can be a pain but still.
