This is not directly an Address Pal problem but does highlight an issue when getting goods delivered in this way. Thanks to the efforts of Address Pal I did manage to receive a package with a missing AP code.
When I complained to the supplier in the UK,they said they use DPD for all their deliveries and that DPD use a postcode address file. I suppose the supplier enters up the PC and hey presto the delivery address appears and can be printed off. Unfortunately the AP code does not get printed off. This means that every time I place an order I have to send an email to say please include the AP code on the delivery address, then cross your fingers and hope that they do so.

I use the AP number as the name, with the surname only after.
(or similar if it is first and last)

I have not had a problem with anyone deleting the first name, only once where the vendor typed the AP code incorrectly, but an post corrected it on arrival.
