Is220d down on power

Hi hoping someone can shed a bit of light on this, I have owned my 06 Lexus IS220d for over a year, it's one owner previous to me and has over 350k on the clock never had dpf/clutch replaced or anything outside normal servicing.

The car seems to be down on power for some time up to 2k rpm after which the turbo kicks in and power is fine, it's not ideal coming out of roundabout or out of junctions as it's quite slow to get up to speed. Never any engine lights on the dash and the only time I experience limp mode is in 6th gear at 120km going up hill.

I'm not expecting the car to last forever at this mileage, but would like to get it sorted if it's viable, I'm hoping it could be just a maf sensor or is there signs of dpf or egr issue?

    Any input appreciated

I've had a 2006 IS220d for 4.5 years now. Any time it has felt sluggish it has been solved after getting the egr cleaned
I got a TerraClean at one stage too and it felt peppier afterwards. As with all diesels most problems are caused by carbon build up, esp if you do lots of city driving between motorway journeys.

Also, if you are experiencing issues with smoke at low speeds or when stopped at traffic lights- get your engine software updated by Toyota. If you don't do a lot of long journeys apparently the engine can revert to a setting where the dpf empties at low speed driving. I discovered this only after I was convinced to get new injectors by the Toyota dealer I got the car from (which cost more than the car is worth- and I have strong feeling it wasn't needed). After changing the injectors the smoke issue was the exact same and was solved after they updated the software. I am posting this point because I see lots of others driving the same car and some Avensis drivers with the same smoke pouring out of their cars- I just hope they know it is a problem that can be solved with a free software update!

Cheers for the reply, I had egr looked at recently and was fine, good info on the smoke as it is embarrassing!

I got a letter from Lexus for a recall on air bag module will see if I can get the software updated at the same time.

The "ECU Reprogramming Report" I received states that the software "Before Update" was "35335500", "After Update" it is "35360000".

I don't understand how the software on car can change by itself but apparently the ECU is a "Smart ECU" and they can re-calibrate themselves to, unfortunately, empty the DPF in slow traffic.

    Good luck

I’d an 07 and it broke my heart.
Egr valve issues, injectors, head gasket....

Do yourself a favor and offload it. I sold mine for 2k a few months ago with only 110k miles. Executive spec.

It lost power before all the issues I mentioned above and trust me if it’s the head gasket you can forget it. The car tax of €994 is chronic on them

Just for balance- I've had mine for close to five years. It had a blocked EGR when I bought it and that was covered by the Lexus Garage. Oherwise, over the nearly 5 years I've had mine which included circa 130K KM of driving (total mileage now circa 230K) it hasn't let me down. The smoke problem I had turned out to be a software problem (although I don't understand why it was so difficult for a main Toyota dealer to diagnose it!).

My indy mechanic services it every 15k, cleans the EGR and oils everything. Only expenses I've had over the years were for a shock absorber, some tyres, and some brake pads at some stage and the painful annual tax bill of course.

If my experience is anything to go by, these cars will go forever if they are serviced regularly and have a good motorway trip every couple of weeks. Overall, mine has been a nice, comfy, reliable old car and I'm going to hold onto it for another year or two (I hope!).

With nearly 400k I couldn’t give it away, another year and I will pass it on doesn’t owe me anything, apart from the tax it’s still a nice place to be decent spec etc...

It could be a number of causes. If the car is worth €1500 with tax of €994 , any repairs over a few hundred doesn’t make much sense. I made the mistake of spending a fair few quid on mine over the years. I’d an awful job offloading it on done deal a few months ago. One guy interested and nobody else. We’ve a 1.6 Passat (131) which is a much nicer drive. Found the gears required constant changing vs the Passat on country roads. It’s a motorway car but guzzles juice.

Tbf my one completely clouded my opinion of them. They’ve an awful rep even just reading the motor forum here.
