Advice - Applying for a job, without relevant experience?

    Hi all.

I've come across an advertisement for a job that i'm really interested in, the job listing mentions that a certain amount of experience is required in a particular field to be considered for this role. Problem is I don't have the experience, but more experience in other areas within this role.

    My question is as follows,

What is the best way to approach this company regarding the job advertisement? In the past I have sent in C.V's for similar jobs and heard nothing back.

How would one ask for a junior role, to gain that experience?

    or

Is it a waste of time applying?

    Thanks very much

I just think you need to demonstrate in your cover letter or CV how your experience relates to what they are looking for. I am assuming that you work in the profession but they are looking for experience in a specific sector. If so you just need to spell it out for them how you think you can slip into this role. It might well be a waste of time but you never know they may find it difficult to find someone with exactly what they are looking for.

You say you have experience in other parts of the role so highlight these
If you do happen to get an interview just show your enthusiasm to learn all aspects of the role.

End of the day no harm applying worst case scenario they just don't get back to you.

Hey, don't mean to hijack this thread, but I'm in a similar position. The role is for a senior position which I am lacking in experience in one area, however I was thinking of applying and mentioning in my cover letter if they would consider me for any non-senior roles that may become available in future. Would this be a bad idea?
