Hi, I'm moving house in the next 6 months. I want to move a silver birch to our new garden. It is 18ft tall and planted about 8-10 years. How can I best go about this? Is now the best time to move it? Appreciate any advice.

No, buy a new one. You have no idea how big an 18ft tree is when it is not in the ground! While you are hiring a machine to lift it (and likely destroy your garden) you could buy a well grown one and get it planted.

Moving mature trees is just a fool's errand, expensive, high risk and pointless.
