    Hi All,

Just picked up the game and I'm hoping to get some lessons before I pick up bad habits. I'm based around south Dublin. Has anyone done lessons at Spawell as this is close to me but I'm willing to travel.

Ah come on, I didn't get involved. I'm only trying to lighten the mood and crack a joke here.

I'm all for opinions and any kind of feedback that can be found here. That's why I visit the forum almost every day.

So much tension. Don't worry lads, the ground is drying up and we'll be back to 18 hole qualifying soon :p

Peter O'Hagan in luttrellstown is very good. A straight talker that simplifies everything. Highly recommended

No. And most of you guys will laugh at me here. He uses his eyes, nothing more. He gives you his experience.

I used to go to Karl Holmes in Greystones, my own club. A very, very good teacher as evident in the young talent that is emerging from our club, most notably Mr. Dunne. Karl uses all the gizmos and it's great.

I went to Peter last year as I live beside luttrelstown and it's just not convenient getting over to Greystones all the time now with young kid days etc.

What I found with Peter is that rather that show me on a computer what I'm doing wrong and showing me the correct way to do it, he explains things quite clearly and simply. It was only after a few visits with him, I realised Karl had changed me a lot from my natural positioning, swing etc, and Peter has found what is natural for me. Both great teachers, but for me, Peter suits me better.

I pay Peter considerably more as Karl looked after me very very well, but €50 an hour is not the most extravagant. I'll be honest and after the first lesson last year I was mad at him, but I stuck with it and went back a week later after a few visits to the range where I was ready to give up the game my ball striking had got so bad. I'd say no more than 10 minutes into the second lesson I realised this guy is good.... ;)

I'd a good refresher session this morning, and took one more tip out of it. Will be hitting the range over the next 10 days or so and next lesson booked just before the boards outing at Luttrelstown......so watch out guys :D

Have used David Lavelle at Spawell and found him very good. There's another thread on this exact topic in this forum, worth a search. Dave gets a good rec from a few people. Nice fellow too. Younger chap, Ross is also good. Good place to start, Imo, especially if near you. Good luck and enjoy.

Agree on David, but he's left the Spawell. Pursuing a different career now.

Ah, I'm sorry to hear that but I wish him well in his new career. Good fellow.

David is still in the Spawell I had a lesson with him this week. He has taken a new career on so maybe is limiting his time there all the same

    Thanks for that update.

I'm glad to know I can arrange a rust removing lesson with David soon, once I realise how bad I've gotten over the winter!

Actually I already know that, having 'tested' a potential purchase recently in American Golf. Suffice it to say that no conclusions could be reached about the suitability or otherwise of the club, as repeated knock-downs don't really tell much on Trackman (or whatever monitor they use.....). The pro was more bewildered than anything else, I thought.

P.S. Of course Spawell's days as a golf range are numbered. Looks like GAA deal about to go through....

OP who did you end up going to for lessons in the end? Would you recommend them?
