What's the sport in going out in the middle of the night with large lamps , dazzling foxes and shooting them dead from the comforts of moving motor on the public road .leaving them dead in the field and driving on to there next soft target. I found one morning a mother and cub both shot dead beside each other with no chance of escape .its was a very sad scene .
Don't get me wrong . I have no problem if they get off there fat ass and go with their dogs and guns and walk the country side to hunt but what they do at night is a disgrace with no respect for house owners or children asleep in bed.
It happened one night , I thought some one was driving in the front door with a sledge hammer , two big blows , I jumped out of bed after spending 3 days and nights in hospital with my 3 old boy who was very sick , I was in bed keeping him company .The shock to look out the wind and see these search light flashing around my house and land .
I rang the cops but to be honest I think it all a cosy nod and wink with them as it died once I put the phone down .
    Lazy w*nkers they are

It's a lot more effective than walking with dogs. I bee no problem with the method and actually encourage a few lads to scout my land before lambing.
One crew got 11 foxes on one night here locally a few weeks ago. but they shouldn't be firing shots near dwellings or flashing lights near them.

There must be a bad crew around you shooting. Anything shot around me is collected. Foxes aren't shot when there's young cubs around and never around houses.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with lamping foxes and is one of the most effective methods of control. That it upsets you doesn't make it illegal.

Two points to note. Shooting from a public road or from a vehicle is not permitted and shooting around dwelling houses, shining lamps at houses or shooting on land without permission is at the very least bad manners and not reflective of the majority of the shooting community.

I live on kerry cork boarder with lots of cover and there are many of these mobile shooting vehicles trolling the countryside at night boasting of all the foxes they shot .what about the foot hunter who goes out and finds it more difficult to find foxes when the mobile night units shooting from the roads kill up to 20 foxes a night and drive off and leave the foxes in the land .its rampant .

This is a similar post to one in the hunting section recently and it makes me wonder if there is some agenda.

Personally, I have no problem with it. Foxes are a terrible problem when they get a taste for lamb. I hope they shoot as many as they can. The country is full of foxes and they have no natural predator so they have to be controlled . Sorry to hear your child was sick by the way

Do you ever start a thread with a positive element to it???

We lamp foxes around here but we always collect them, if one is injured instead of killed we will go and find him the next day.
They are vermin and do nothing more than that. I don't condone killing a cub at all but clearly the club next to you has other ideas.

2 years ago I was checking a cow left her for an hour to calve, when I came back I found her In serious distress and her calf half way out with half is face ate off by a fox. They are a serious problem if left unchecked.

Got a few local foot hound clubs out and I find them great. They usually always ask permission. I only have a problem with the people who don't ask.... I find the horse hunting crowd terrible Mod Snip... Make your point without resorting to bad language please. Thanks. GC who have no respect for land owners, they think nothing of cutting your strained fencing and putting 2 dozen horses through your field when the fields are to wet for cows.

I would well believe it. The problem is that a percentage of the population think that they are a harmless, cute, furry dog like creature and therefore should be left to run riot

    I dunno...

We have had lambs here for a long time, and we have foxes and never had any real issues with em...
If we did, then I'd get someone in to shoot em. But til then, I'm a believer in leave em alone...

As we have no problems now, I wouldn't be best pleased with lads turning up shooting - better the devil you know and all that...

We had a lot more problems with dogs - both the domestic and hunt variety...

That was an early cub, I've never seen them out and reared so early in the year

It was in early November and so the cub may be 9 months . Don't know much about foxes but it was quite small. .
