Strange sort of film, really. That aside, at one point she has to break out her water purification gear...

Has me curious about the Pacific Crest Trail, though.

I'd love to do the John muir trail, which is a segment of the pct, not sure I'd fancy the full thing though, 500 miles of desert to start!

Thought the book was much better than the film . Gave you a sensation of the day to day relentless hiking.

How does the film character compare to that of the book?

The film character seems to be less troubled by the past events in her life than the character in the book .

I found Tracks to be the more compelling film, I liked Wild a lot but it seemed fairly superficial to me. Must read the book at some stage though.

The desert section of the PCT is actually 702 miles

There are a limited number of JMT permits given out each year. However if you get a PCT through hiker permit this allows you access to all the parks and trails along the PCT without additional paperwork, including the JMT and Mt Whitney summit. The PCTA are releasing PCT permits early this year, starting with 35 permits a day on November 1st and a further 15 permits a day at a later day.

yep looks stunning would love to do a week of of it , did a day section last year the cathedral lakes it was stunning
