GAA and the IOC.....

Anyone know if there has ever been any attempt to register the GAA with the IOC? And if there has, if there was eny reason for problems, rejections, etc? There are quite a few non-Olympic sports registered with the IOC; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Association_of_IOC_Recognised_International_Sports_Federations

I'm a member of a club overseas, and it's a real hassle trying to get any public facilities booked, tournaments organised, etc because the sports federations out here simply don't view us as a "real" sport. And it's impossible to get registered as an official sport because the GAA aren't recognised by the IOC.

GAA used to have rep on IOC but think that ended in 1930s when GAA stopped organising athletics. There was whole handling around that time about whether IOC should recognise a 32 county athletics body - NACA which was supported by GAA - or a 26 county organisation.

There was one year - might have been Melbourne - when a team of NACA cyclists delayed the start over their non-recognition.

    Only in Ireland!
