Just finished watching blood diamonds on tv, struggling to understand how he never got that infamous oscar before. To be fair i dont follow the oscar stuff but i realised the guy has made some seriously good movies. Shutter island, gilbert grape and catch me if you can are my favourite. If any of the 3 are on the box i'll watch again for the 4/5'th time.
He still has wolf wall street, gangs of new york, the departed and more. Brillant actor, looking forward to his next movie

Apparently he didn't like doing the whole campaigning for Oscar votes up until the revnant how true this is, well is anyone's guess

Leo is picky about the work he takes on and the company he keeps, it seems. Such behaviour would rub certain elements of the Hollywood machine up the wrong way.

The Oscars, and similar awards, are often all about arse kissing and virtue signalling, anyway, as opposed to talent.

With The Revenant, however, it just couldn't be ignored how good he is.

Also... This Boy's Life is never mentioned. What a movie that is.

Ya got to admire the guy so for pretty much doing his own thing and still smashing them out every 2,3,4years. I mean its hard to see him in a horribble project in the last/next couple years.
Felt like the revenant they had to give it to him. He was better in other films but he's gota be up there with the greastest when you see his filmograpghy

He's a good actor but nowhere in the same class as De Niro, Hackman, Brando or Hoffman. Even in the last decade or more there's been better actors like Seymour Hoffman, Day Lewis, Hanks and yes Tom Cruise. How Cruise hasn't won an Oscar is ridiculous. He was better than Hoffman in Rain Man and his performance in Magnolia is nothing short of astonishing.

I think he's a good actor and he managed to dissociate himself and move quickly onto very different and more diverse roles after the success of Titanic.

I really liked The Gangs of New York although Daniel Day Lewis playing Bill The Butcher was the stand out charachter for me in that movie. I like Dicaprio in Django. He's good a playing the bad guy.

    He's a monstrous actor (a compliment!).

I'm so glad that actors have an almost endless lifespan in terms of their ability to work and perform. Hopefully we can look forward to a lot more from him.

Im not sure which is more impressive his acting abilities or his dating?

I share your praise for those actors, but in fairness, they are all of an older generation than DiCaprio. And some of them (Hanks, Cruise) have been coasting for some time now. They peaked as DiCaprio was just getting started. Where as DiCaprio has really only hit his stride in the last few years.

Cruise has been coasting but Hanks is still on top form. Bridge of Spies was brilliant and his acting in Captain Phillips was outstanding. PSH was born 7 years before Di Caprio and his career was at the same time as Di Caprio, but imo PSH is a vastly superior actor.

He was brilliant in The Aviator also.

He is one of the few actors in today's industry that rarely makes a bad movie.

I thought The Wolf of Wall Street was his standout performance although I haven't seen The Revenant yet. I've always though he's rated higher than he deserves. I would never watch a movie just because he was in it but because the movie was rated highly and he happened to be in it.

    Brilliant Actor.

    Shutter Island
    Catch me if you can
    The departed
    The Beach
    Basketball diaries
    Gangs of Newyork

If true that he's very picky, why not?

Whats the point of being greedy and committing to any old shyte.

I agree with you, cruise always has very watchable and enjoyable movies at worst. At best he's brilliant in them. I agree, I thought he was the real star of rainman. magnolia was a great role for him but since ron kovic, he aint done much for the Oscars. then again being a scientologist might hinder his efforts, it's a strange town hollyweird!

Nah, he's too short to be considered one of the greatest.

He's fantastic, shaping up to be the GOAT in the acting world, and he is only 40 - young for a male actor..

    That's a massive overstatement. 'vastly superior' ??

What criteria are you basing that on?

I'd say it's based on ability and range.

I actually thought his work on Django Unchained was up there at his best.

i really thought the revenant was one of the worst most boring films of the last few years. its just a film that was trying to hard to get oscars but hell it worked.

i wouldnt even put it in leos top 10 performances.

I didn't think it was trying to get oscars but it lacked a lot of ways. I thought DiCaprio was way over the top in a lot of it.

It was much worse than that.

Hollywood loves suffering though. Which is why Leo won.

And Hollywood also loves itself. Which is why La La Land will probably win.

43 this year, I only know because we're the same age to the month I think.
still though, he's class. sure the fact that tom hardy jumped on boards so easily speaks volumes, he would have known how picky DiCaprio is.
