Peugeot 407 multiple errors. Needs ECM / BSI and key

Brother in law has a 2.0 16v petrol 407 from 2008 with a bunch of errors.

well my brother in law got it read in the main dealer today and was told to get a replacement ECm, Bsi and key and that the guy from the dealer would code them for him.

The question is really how do we know it is the right set - does it need to match all the numbers on both units?

any help would be great. Does anybody know of a suitable guy who could either repair or supply and fit as it seems very risky to buy from ebay or partfinder?
    thanks a million,

    based in Dublin

    thanks

    Richard

    What are those multiple errors?

Had very similar thing in my 1.8 petrol 407.
Suddenly all lights on the dash came on, including airbag, abs, etc...
Car stopper and wouldn't start (it wouldn't even turn over).
I plugged in my ELM327, and at least 30 different errors showed up, including airbags, abs sensors, injectors, pressure sensors, etc... Resetting them didn't help at all, so I had to call breakdown assistance (after walking 5km in the rain to get some phone signal).

My mechanic had bit better diagnostics equipment, and he reckoned that all errors were due to low voltage in the ECU, and this was caused by dead relay in fuse box.
Unfortunately, relays are not exchangable there like in normal cars, so he had to source adequate fusebox from the scrappies. Cost me 100 quid. It's been a year now, and car works brilliant ever since

I'm not saying it's the same problem with your brother's in law car, but maybe it's worth a second opinion before changing all expensive electronic gear.

Well we have tried all sorts of things here.

Bought spurious planet which I can't get to work as I think it tried to connect to the net and got locked.

Ran the car on a different fuse box- still the problem
Removed BSI and ECU and cleaned each abs sensor at the wheel- found a lot of muck.
Changed the fuse in the BSI- the 10 A at the front.
At this the car seemed to work fine for a few days and all was well.

Now I am getting the ESP X light when making a sharp 90 degree left turn. Is there something I can check at the wheel angle sensor?
As of now I could not remove the airbag. I need to do more research on how to remove it.

I feel that I am getting close but have not got there yet. Any suggestions?

In my experience, ideally you need a dedicated laptop for this - and as you say, don't connect it to the internet. Wipe it and do a fresh install of Windows if you can. There are guides online that might help (the instructions I got with mine weren't great), though it's been a while since I played with that stuff.

I'd be more suspicious of the power supply to the ECU, BSI, etc. judging by all the errors. Maybe bad earth, dodgy battery/alternator, water ingress to wiring?
