So RTE are looking for someone to help with a series of articles on EV ownership.
It would take the form of diary of a typical owner.

Ideally, you would have a fair amount of average daily mileage but not have work charging.

Could anyone who may be interested pop me a PM with your details and I can pass them on?

I have to say, fair play to RTE for doing this. Shows they at least listen to peoples criticisms.

What is average daily mileage? You should really define this.

5-6 days out of the week you should have mileage that fits inside the single charge range of your vehicle. You should also have enough mileage to show the running cost advantages of EVs (i.e. not 20km or less a day of city driving).

Not sure I understand your definition, but I would consider our usage typical. Happy to partake if they want my input.

Surely someone doing more than the range of the car should be suitable candidates, perhaps showing the use of public chargers and showing it's free ?

That may be a representation of now, but it's not a representation of the future

Exactly. I also argued the point that anyone who needed (or got close to needing) charging to complete their commute or daily journeys would be a less than ideal candidate.
Not everyone is willing to do that, and it's something for the uninitiated to point to and say "I haven't got work charging or whatever therefore an EV is not suitable for me".

I think by the time EV sales meet even 10% of Irish sales, range will be north of 300 Kms and any commute will be a non issue. Perhaps by the time EV sales meet 10% or Irish sales range will be 500 odd Kms.

True, but for the moment if we want to accurately reflect that coming reality and encourage people who have suitable usage patterns for current EVs to go and buy we've got to be careful about giving them information they could use to talk themselves out of it and give them the accurate picture on running costs and home charging which isn't getting through.

Have they actually corrected all inaccuracies in the original article and denoted the changes that they have made (i.e. not simply 'updated at X time on X date - but actually stated the changes they have made)?

That's the way other transparent media organisations operate. They can do it in small print at the bottom of the article but if they are serious about honesty and transparency, they will do this. If they're not....

You'll appreciate I'm no fan of the organisation - but even I will acknowledge this latest offer as an advancement but ONLY if they update the original article transparently as outlined above.
