My sons primary has 4 closing times at 12 listed between now & Easter. 2 for PT meetings, 1 for staff inservice & 1 for day of holidays. This seems like a lot to me, is it normal to have so many early finishes?

Are you sure there are 2 half days for PT meetings?

    Half out half in approach.

Ah ok, that must be it. I thought with CP hrs this was a thing of the past...certainly is in secondary!
    Thanks

Half in, half out doesn't apply to PT meetings at primary:

In each school year there will be one formal parent/teacher meeting held in each primary school. This meeting will normally commence at 3.15 pm and will end at 5.45 pm unless otherwise agreed at local level between all relevant parties. In any event the parent/teacher meeting will not take place during the school tuition period. The school will close 15 minutes early on the day of the formal parent/teacher meeting.

Our school never closes early (15 mins or otherwise) for PT meetings and it's rare we are out by 5.45. And we have two evenings a row of it.

Our principal supervises the whole school (minus infant classes) in the hall for the 15 minutes. I prefer to get stuck straight in.

The primary school my kids attend never finish early for PT meetings and are very accommodating giving early morning appointments or evenings. It is traditional for the children to work a half day on the day of holidays and I know that there is a day of inservice this year for the new curriculum that all primary teachers have to attend. Having said that, my sister's kids are in secondary school and they seem to get quite a few half days for this and that. By the same token, like my kid's primary school, they have a lot of events on in the evenings and night time, as well as weekends, when some people in other jobs wouldn't dream of giving personal time.

Over the years, when I see my kid's teachers and principal attending meetings and enrolment ceremonies for first penance, communion, confirmation, matches, quizzes, parent talks, AGMs, talks on antibullying and so, so many other school related events, for the sake of the children, it makes me stop and think that we do tend to take lots of this goodwill for granted.
