Attic Retention

Hi
We just started an attic conversion and have hit a problem on day one, they can't get a stairs to work adequately due to the pitch of the room. Now the builder has suggested to plough ahead and get a "Dutch Hip" to the side to accommodate the stairs and head height.
He has stated that he can go ahead and we can apply for retention after its done,
Is he right ??
There are 5 other houses with similar DUTCH HIP roofs so i would imagine getting planning will not be an issue, Im in South Dublin CoCo area for anyone wh has had a similar experiences.

Thought/Advice much appreciated.

I wouldn't. Worst case, you would have to take it all down again.
Firstly, it sounds like amateur hour to have builders on site without having anything designed or dimensions checked.

Any architectural or Engineering input at all.

You should consider that your builder is only concerned with getting his work done as quickly as possible and getting out the door. He has no concerns as to whether you will be in a sh1t storm when he is gone.
