Yesterday I posted a packet in the post office paid 7.05 euro for it and it weighed 0.676kg. I asked for a cert of posting and for tracking number and the lady in the office said she could put one on for me. It didnt cost anything extra to do so she did it and i had a tracking number for the packet.

Today I went in to same post office to post another packet and the same girl was at the desk. The packet cost 7.05 euro to post and it weighed 0.505kg and it was the same size as the packet I posted yesterday. When I asked to get a tracking number with the cert of posting she said you can't get that, not with a cert of posting. I am a bit confused by this. Yesterday she gave me a tracking number with my packet and today she didn't. They were both the same size packets and cost the same to post. I really don't know what to say.

Can anyone shed any light to this?

It's done on the size of the parcel these days. Especially if it's a courier .

I was confused at the time and went out to check my receipts after and it was the same as yesterday.

The simple answer is she made a mistake, which day is the hard answer.

It might be a case of her thinking you're taking advantage?! Well if both were the exact same, it might be that she did it once for ya as a once-off, but if ya look for it again and it generally is a fee-based thing to get, would this be why she charged ya second time?

    Why did you not say:
'But you did it for me yesterday Mrs. Nice Postmistress'

OP - surely Track and Trace is only available with registered mail and would have cost more than the €7.05 you were charged? €10.75 by my reckoning.

    Ask for standard parcel post.
That gets a tracking number but isn't insured to any value.
