Hi, could someone give me some info on these LC Subjects? I have to pick my subjects this week and I'm stuck between these. What is the overall opinion on each subject? What is better for maximising points? I'd like to pursue teaching or journalism in college. Obviously art seems like a better option but in quite attached to biology too. Someone help:/

    Hello,
I am currently in 6th year and doing both subjects. In my opinion they are both quite challenging. Biology has many chapters packed with information but if you are good at biology then I would recommend it! Art is a really good subject to do! The only issue is Art history. There is lot's of information to learn and I mean a lot. If you enjoy history you shouldn't find it too difficult. It is easy to mix up the European periods of art history as there are so many artists and paintings and sometimes you just cannot tell which is which. Neither subject is easy, they both are a huge course. I recommend both subjects though! It's really just down to what you feel you would personally enjoy more. In terms of maximising points, in the case of art, the drawing side is 60% of the exam whereas the art history is 40% so that tends to brings people's grades down a whole lot if they find the history hard to grasp. Biology is 100% written. So if you don't feel like you will grasp the art history then biology is the way to go!

Do you know anything about the new course in Art? Can't seem to find any resources!

Biology is 41 chapters long. I don't recommended if you're not willing to keep up with it, you really do need to be interested in every aspect of biology since the course is so varied.

Literally do which ever one you have the most interest in. It's 100% the only factor to consider when choosing subjects (outside of minimum entry requirements that is). If you like Art, choose Art. if you enjoy Biology, choose Biology. It's that simple. Whichever one you enjoy the most, you're gonna enjoy studying the most. And if you enjoy studying it, you'll do better in it and end up with a good grade.

I've never done Art so I can't comment on the course, but I do Biology. Saying its 41 chapters really doesn't have much baring on how long the course actually is. Business has 26 chapters but I'd consider that to be roughly the same length course-wise as Biology. Plus some chapters are very short - Amoeba's only 2 pages long. Biology's a very nice science subject. It's very easy to understand (for the most part) and just requires a bit of learning. Some of it can be very interesting too. For me, it's always been an easier subject, but as I said that's because I enjoy Biology.

I agree with Bazinga. Pick the subjects YOU like. Don't pick a subject because it's an "easy A" or because everyone else is doing it. I can't stress enough how much easier it is to study/remember a subject that you enjoy and have an interest in.

Biology is 90 percent rote learning and then there's a few tricky concepts to understand like photosynthesis, respiration and genetics. But it's no longer the pisstake it used to be, the papers seem to be getting trickier. It's not that interesting of a subject and can be awful boring in parts (plant chapters) but if you're willing to put in even a moderate amount of effort you can get an A in it.

Art, from what I've heard, is one of the easiest subjects to get a C or better but one of the trickiest to get an A in. So if you're looking to maximise points, I'd be inclined to go for biology.

It depends on yourself though. If you don't like biology, don't do it. I'm in a class of about 26 for biology and about half have just given up with the subject. Anybody I know that does art loves it. Go figure.

How good do you have to be to secure good marks in Art??
