Hi, I just found out I can't apply for tax back online as my wife is registered for income tax and we are jointly assessed. This goes back to 2015 when she was on a self assessment basis. However, she filled in a trcn1 to deregister and sent a letter as well but they still have not deregistered her.
Any idea how else this can be done? She is a PAYE employee since the start of 2015 so I've no idea how she'l still registered for income tax.

When did you send in the TRCN1? It might take some time to be processed. In the meantime you could ring Revenue and ask to apply the claim that way.

TRCN1 was actually sent in over a year ago as was a letter followed up with a phone call and an email. In fairness the email was only in the last couple of days. I rang the tax office, they would not apply the credit that way. They said she had to be deregistred before I can apply for anything.

Was she self employed for any portion of 2015 at all? If she was a return is still required. If she ceased in 2014, then the IT reg should be ceased with a 2014 date leaving her registered for PAYE only in 2015.

Also emails are being phased out in revenue, electronic communication is through the my enquiry channel of my account these days.

If returns were filed on ROS, there is a simple de registration facility there that is practically instant.

As already stated, the return should be filed covering the period up to the date self assessment for IT ceased.

thanks for the responses. She was self employed until August 2015. After that she was PAYE only. All returns for 2015 we filed last year.
Couldn't use the online system as a different office deals with registrations. Kind of weird, when I rang revenue they said they didn't deal with it so had to get on to the local registrations office.
Hopefully it should get sorted soon. Can't think of anything else we can do to get it ended.
