Tus Programme Parking Query

    Hi guys,

Just wondering if anyone would know. I'm due to start my Tus placement in a week. It's a good thirty minute walk from my home (Due to start at 9am three days per week). The parking facilities they have is pay by- and it cost me €1 for 15 minutes when I went for my meeting. As I'm only getting €22.50 extra for the placement parking is well going to exceed that for the three days. I have asked about this and was told to park in the nearby shopping centre, walk and get my ticket validated by the centre. Tickets can only be validated though if you are using the centre. On Citizens information it says the Voluntary organisation should cove other costs not covered by TUS. Is this correct? Do I have to cover my own parking? I really am struggling at the moment and I even jumped at the chance for the €20 extra, but if it ends up costing me more money, I don't know how I cover my bills.

Does anyone know who covers parking costs? I'm not asking for my Diesel money to get to and from work, but I would expect they would have staff parking

Talk to your Tús supervisor. You shouldn't be expected to pay for parking as a result of your placement.

I have and they are now saying that if it's a problem, I'll have to go to a different place with public parking or nearer my home. But I have already been to the meeting and have gotten organised for starting this programme. I'm livid. It would be a huge expense that would even cut into what I was getting previous.

I have uncontrolled asthma, so it's extremely difficult to breathe in the colder weather and especially while walking in colder weather. Walking is not easy up this way either, for women. This is why I have a car. That being said, once the weather improves and it gets brighter earlier, that would be my plan each day to be my daily exercise. Looks like it won't be for a while yet though.

Would like that exercise, but I never learned to cycle and am a bit of a lost cause on that matter at this stage of my life :D

Walking is no more difficult for women than it is for men.

You need to see your doctor and get the asthma controlled. Otherwise you are not fit for work, so should not have been receiving job-seekers in the first place.

You're right, but the area is not very safe for a young woman to be walking in the dark. Which it is until 9am here most mornings.

Have done, have a Degree in Nursing, am under a consultant at my local hospital and see my Doctor a few times a month. On inhalers and medication ;). I am quite capable of work. "Being Wheezy ain't easy", as they say but there's no need for me to try to claim illness benefit, disability payments etc. I am quite capable of working and otherwise a fit and healthy 29 year old . I worked my entire life from the age of 17. Schooled while working. Carrying part time jobs, going to University and Working Full Time (Unpaid) during my Degree. Unfortunately had to leave my job last year due to circumstances beyond my control and have been receiving Jobseekers for a very short time compared to most (Seven months). Why would I not be entitled to Jobseekers? And Why would Asthma hold me back from working? Walking in the cold aggravates my condition, walking in the summer also aggravates it due to pollen levels etc. Deaf people cannot hear but most can work. Blind people cannot see but most can work. Disabled people may not be able to walk, talk etc but most can work. Asthma doesn't hold me back from working, it just dictates a little bit of what I can/cannot manage daily.

Thank you for your advise. My Tus Advisor contacted the employer and managed to secure parking for me, across the street, where the staff park. We'll see how it goes on Wed when I start :)
