Opel Insignia 2.0 or 1.6 litre

I'm thinking of buying an Insignia, either the 2014/2015 140bhp 2 litre or the 2016 136bhp 1.6 litre diesels.

Has anyone gone from the 2 to the 1.6 litre ?
    How do they compare ?

How reliable are both engines, any major issues or faults ?

I know there is a new model coming this year but am not interested in buying new.

    Thanks.

Do not touch an opel/vaux. Awful build quality, awful reliability.

And which model/s gave you owned and for how long to make such a comprehensive statement?

Having researched Zafiras with the same engine there seems to be little reason to go for the 140bhp 2.0 over the 136bhp 1.6. The 1.6 is smoother and quieter and has a decent amount of torque. If I was going for an Insignia I would go for the 170bhp version.

Im driving 35 years, I'm involved in our company fleet, and I know my way around an engine. In that time I've owned and driven several opels. Our company got insignias in 2011 and 2013. Neither I nor any of the guys who drive them have anything good to say about them. We have since returned to Ford. In my own experience, vaux/opel are prone to head problems within 100k. They are not in the same league as other main manufacturers.

Funny, our company has had them too and nothing like that to report. I put 150k on one and it was flawless. Would take one any day over a Mondeo but each to their own

Horrible soulless cars, but as you said, each to their own.

Compared to what though? To me anyhow they're as good as any of the mainstream brands.
Spec is everything with them- an SRI LTD edition or Elite spec compared to the basic and grim S spec utterly transforms the car.
