Dog dodgy tummy

Hi. I treated my dogs with advocate worm/flea dropper three days ago. Since then, one has an upset gut. She's in great form, appetite good, drinking and lively.
It's just horrendous gas and urgency to go to the loo and semi solid poo/diarrhea. Haven't seen any parasites in the poo.

Is this just working through her system?. Do you recommend to keep her from food,( have boiled chicken and rice to give her today)

    Any recommendations?

What brand did you use? Was it from the vet or a supermarket/shop?

Is she in good form apart from that?

Maybe just go with the boiled chicken and rice for the moment.

Sorry just realised you said she was in good form. Id just give her a day of plain food and see does that help her.

It was advocate gotten from the vets. Yes she's in good spirits. Just gave her a cup of chicken and rice.

She was on steroids for a month weaned down and finished last week so maybe her little system is clearing out.

I'll see how she is over the next day or so.

    Thanks.

On steroids for a month, Advocate too - lots of chemicals to work her way through maybe...
I know I stopped giving one of my dogs any flea treatment (thankfully none of them ever get fleas) or wormers as he had bad reactions from pretty much any "chemicals" - he had lots of allergies.

Next time you might consider replacing Advocate with another brand, just in case theres something there thats causing her problems...

If she was human I'd say give her some probiotics to help her tummy, but someone more knowledgeable will no doubt tell you whats good for dodgy dog tummys, but giving boiled rice/chicken is always good

Thanks. Yeah think I'll research less harsh worm/flea options. She's a divil tho for catching/killing mice so it's a lesser of two evils.

Will ask to try a different brand next time.

Update : she got 'better' she was grand till tonight.

    Gas, discomfort and shivery.

Definite trip to the vet. Poor mite has my heart broke she's a very fickle little thing.

OP why was she on steroids for a month?
What was her problem to necessitate the meds?
Maybe shes still suffering from that problem?
I dont think the wormer could have an effect for this long?
Gas/discomfort/shivery sounds like a definite visit to the vet as you say.
Boiled rice/chicken or some scrambled egg to eat to help her tummy
Have you changed her food lately? Sounds like a reaction to food or something shes eaten. Let us know how you get on at the vet....

She gets atopic dermatitis. The last 6 weeks was a really bad flare up. Hence the steroids. Also regular washes.

These flare ups are getting worse as she gets older. Have had numerous bloods done, skin scrapes ect all inconclusive.

She's on burns sensitive which suits her for the best part.

Tummy is settled down again today. But will make a vet trip for check up anyway.

boiled rice and chicken never fails alright like a good stew. hope she recovers for you. we use baby oil on our dogs bad elbows from the way she lys down also use baby shampoo as when we tried the dog shampoo from the pet shop she flared up and got blisters. if its safe enough on a baby its safe enough for the dog. found pure pet food really good also in nursing back to health

This was us with Pepper, and all skin tests were inconclusive too. The very odd thing was that as he got very much older (17!) the skin issues receeded. But like you the food was a major concern. I found home cooked food was the only thing that really kept him going well. Things like wormers, flea treatments were out, and we stopped all vaccines (with vet agreement) too, as he seemed to react to everything.

Thanks for that. Yeah it seems to be a reaction to the flea and worm treatment as her poor skin has flared up again too.

Found chicken doesn't agree with her either (thought I was doing the right thing with the chicken and rice seems not)

She's now on strict dry food.
Been giving her a small spoon of live natural no sugar yogurt too. Normal poops now the last three days.

Got cream for her skin, have to bathe her paws and belly every day and cream them.

She got a antihistamine shot Monday. Really don't want her to go back on steroids. Have to go back next week if skin doesn't calm down.

do you have to bathe her every day because of grass allergy/shes outside?? Thats such a nuisance/chore - can you put a babygro/baby socks on her while shes outside? Skin reactions/allergies are just a nightmare to manage arent they? My poor guy used to be tormented at times - hot spots on his back that he couldnt reach. I found a wonderful product that I used to buy from UK that seemed to really help/break the cycle of heat/itch/scratching/flareups. In case you are interested it was:

Alfie used to get the runs and a bad tummy after advocate, got a new one from the vet recently and had no problems with it.
I'll check the name later when home
