Jenin Refugee Camp - Palestine (West Bank)

Hi everybody - In a few short weeks time I am going to do something I've dreamed about for over 20 years. I'm going to visit the occupied territories, particularly the West Bank and the city of Jenin. I will be living in the Jenin Refugee Camp & will be taking part in a series of workshops in The Freedom Theatre. I am an actor and filmmaker & the thought of being able to combine my first trip to Palestine with my love of theatre is almost overwhelming.

In April 2017, The Freedom Theatre invites international theatre activists: professional artists, theatre students and teachers, to a seven-day workshop that will offer training of actors of resistance, preparing their bodies, minds and spirits for such work, presenting the practice and theory of the work and pedagogy of The Freedom Theatre.

What I'm hoping you guys can help me with is any advice you have getting in and out of the country, as I believe once you say you are West Bank bound they up the level of questioning/searching 100fold. Any tips or advice particularly from people who have been there would be most welcome. Also although I am not going there as a tourist, I will have a day or two either side of my trip to see some of the country so ideas of places to visit are also appreciated. Cheers!

Don't mention the West Bank or even Palestine when you are there. Just that your not sure what your plans are yet, just to see the country. When I was there last I was asked about every Arabic country I had been to, multiple times for explanations... You give them fodder they feed....

Thanks. Yes this is one of the options I've been advised. But if I say I'm visiting they will apparently ask for addresses I'm staying in Israel, and I'm worried that if I start the lies, I'll get caught out.

Keep the story simple. Keep to the facts. You are visiting israel and doing some touring. Know where you're likely to visit!
