    Hey all,

I'm building a PC for my mom and I am trying to decide on a few parts. My mother will be using it for browsing, emails, Microsoft word and stuff like that. My brother will also be using it for gaming. I have chosen a few parts already but I don't know what motherboard or ram I should get. My budget is 400 euros but if it seems to be worth it I might push the budget to 500. The parts I have picked out are:

    Intel i3 7100
    Asus Radeon Rx 460 2gb
    Corsair 200r case
Evga 500w 80+ bronze certified PSU
    Western Digital RE3 1TB 7200rpm

These are the parts I am unsure of:

    Kingston Fury 8gb DDR4-2400
MSI H110M Pro VD Micro ATX LGA 1151

The motherboard I have already from a previous build. If you disagree with me on anything please tell me. Thanks

RAM is fine, I'd get a B250 board, if you use the 7100 in a H110 it'll probably need a BIOS update first, which requires a 6xxx CPU

Forgive me for not being tech savy but does 6xxx stand for 6 core. Also is there any ways I can save some money on the build.

    6th Gen CPU, Skylake.

You could drop the i3 to a Pentium G4560, should still perform fine in most games

Have you any suggestions for a motherboard?

Digital Solitude suggested the B250 motherboard. The MSI H110M has a max ram speed of 2133, so would need something like the B250 to run the Kingston Fury 8gb DDR4-2400.

I have chosen a msi b250 pc mate motherboard and i have changed the graphics card to a spphire radeon rx 460.
If this is the right choice or the wrong please tell me.

I have also selected an asus optical drive and i have picked a seagate barracuda hard drive over the western digital.

    They are fine.

I agree with the G4560, it's very close to the i3-6100 and also supports 2400mhz ram on the B250 chipset.

I would not get the RX460, the GTX1050 2GB is very close in price and is much faster in games.

Also you should consider getting an SSD in there, even a 120GB one for the OS/one or two games and 1TB then for storage. It makes a huge difference to day to day usage of the PC.

Or maybe even forget the 1TB hard drive and just go with a 240GB SSD, might be enough space depending on whether your brother plays a few games at once or has loads installed/wants to store movies and stuff as well.

Is the GTX 1050 really worth the extra 15 quid? I know that sounds cheap but I'm on a tight budget and my brother is only starting to game now so he doesn't need an amazing PC. Also i have a sapphire radeon R9 380 so I'm a bit more familiar with their hardware.

Yes, it's worth it, it's way faster than the RX460 and uses less power in general also. Up to you of course but for the sake of €15 it would be fairly short sighted in my opinion.

I suppose I'll go for the 1050 so. Also will I need a wireless adapter for the computer to connect to the WiFi?

For playing online games its better to have a powerline like TPlink because it gives a stable internet connection vs wifi.

I have a tp link myself and find it good. I'll look into getting another one but the spot where the PC is going has an Ethernet cable that isn't working.

Just wondering is the MSI Bazooka B250m motherboard compatible with my build? I dont seem to be able to find it on pcpartpicker so any insights would be appreciated.

PCPartpicker sometimes doesn't pick up the prices because the part is in Mindfactory's 2nd warehouse (just means an extra 2-3 days delivery).

And nice one, just saw this:
If you buy between today (27. February) to 5th March, you get a €25 discount if you buy MSI mobo + GPU

    So:
PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

    CPU: Intel Pentium G4560 3.5GHz Dual-Core Processor (€62.53 @ Mindfactory)
    Memory: G.Skill NT Series 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR4-2400 Memory (€60.84 @ Mindfactory)

    Storage: Hitachi Travelstar 1TB 2.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive (€60.83 @ Mindfactory)

*edit* note that I added an SSD, as I don't think any PC should be without one.

The case arrived today (corsair 100r) as I ordered it from Amazon but there is a bit of a problem. The case only includes 1 fan. It's an exhaust fan do I'm just wondering will i need to get more fans and if so what fans should I get?

    Should I get three?

  • Registered Users Posts: 602 ✭✭✭Aodhan5000

Also should i get more fans for my corsair carbide series spec alpha? I want to get free shopping so I may as well spend the money.

Look at the specs of your motherboard to see how many fan headers it has; otherwise you'd need a fan splitter cable too (e.g. the MSI B250M MORTAR above has 2x 4-pin fan headers)

  • Registered Users Posts: 602 ✭✭✭Aodhan5000

Would it be best to get as many as possible. I mean should i get a fan splitter?

  • Registered Users Posts: 602 ✭✭✭Aodhan5000

Also I think the 100r only takes 120mm fans.

One fan is plenty, two fans if you want to improve the airflow through the case. One back and one front, pulling air in the front and out the back. Since this is Ireland, the weather is somewhat our friend in that we don't need much to keep the hardware at a reasonable temperature. The CPU and graphics cards both have fans to keep them cool so it's just making sure enough air gets into the case to cycle the hotter air out.

Also, I'm looking at getting a new monitor. Are there any 1080p, 60hz, 1ms response rate monitors out there for around 150 quid?
