    Hi all,

I recently had a bad case of 'Clutch Chudder' on my 2005 SV1000 particularly in the 2500-4000 RPM range which made the bike almost undriveable a low speeds. So much so i actually had to take it off the road to find a repair. I did some research on this and it turns out it is a very common serial issue on SV's and DL1000's. Simply replacing the basket is known not to be sufficient as it is an actual design flaw with the Suzuki basket and apparently you can expect to see the issue return if a new factory basket is installed. There are few workshops around the world which do a specialist clutch basket modification in order to eliminate this issue.

Some detail on my case; Before i removed the clutch basket from the bike i could rotate it left to right 5-10 degrees before hitting a stop each side which indicates play between the springs, basket casting and the drive gear. When the basket was taken off the bike and in a bench vice i could move the drive gear back and forward with a screwdriver off-center around 1-2 mm. This indicates that the bearing surface is worn. (See vibefreev.com for videos showing how this movement looks)

I sent my clutch basket to John Stykes at vibefreev.com (aka Sharealike) based in the UK who performs these modifications. John was very helpful and prompt and did a superb job at re-engineering the clutch basket. Cost was 260 GBP and this included a clutch holding tool, water pump seal and return postage so a very fair price for the work.

I have installed the clutch and now the bike is running perfectly and the clutch chudder has been completely eliminated. Just thought posting this tread would be in order as there is noting on boards relating to this (note there is some other related threads on SV-Portal.com). Fair credit to John for his work and I fully recommend him to anyone who is experiencing the same issue.

I will follow up on this thread at a later date to let you know how things are going.

    Thanks,
    Steve
