Guess the VRT appeal amount

So I have a VRT appeal in with revenue at the moment on a VW CC, 2013, GT model, DSG, 240KM.

I paid £8,700 for the car. With a trade in of £700 car cost me €9004 cash. VRT was €4,654 which revenue based on a open market selling price of €24K.

Talked to a number of VW main dealers they said they would need to see the car but considering the milage the car at best is worth between €12K-€14K based on 240 kilometres. One dealer said he could touch it considering the km's.

So what will the great pen pushers of revenue decide? will i get anything back? My appeal documentation was strong but there is some models that dealers are looking for mad money which may weaken my case. I am looking for €1,500 back. I am due to hear back in the next couple of weeks. Anyone care to guess what I'll get back from them, if anything?

Is it possible to get something in writing from a couple of dealers along with photographic evidence of similar vehicles selling for similar value?

    Few things here.

The price you paid has no bearing on the VRT amount.

The price a VW dealer would give you for it has no bearing.

What you need to find is other 2013 CCs for sale and work from those prices.
Also play around with different specs and compare their OMSPs. The GT spec shouldn't be massively more valuable.

There is a set formula for depreciating values based on mileage.

OMSP of €24k is a bit high but it's still going going to be a nice bit higher than €14k I reckon.

I was calling dealers under the pretence of trading in my car they all wanted to see it before committing to any price but some gave me a range in which they would value the car at. I didn't get a chance to drop into them. Getting something in writing from a main dealer for a VRT appear maybe a big ask from them. I know if I was asked for the same I would say no.

You know yourself that you'd make more selling the car privately than VW would buy it from you for.

I got a written valuation of a dealership when I appealed mine so it is possible to get one and the dealer was down in cork who I had no connection with. Also you can do a motor valuation on motor check etc. then print off loads of adds of car sale sites etc. when appeal is submitted you should get it settled in around a month. Best of luck

Find ten same cars on donedeal/carzone with similar mileage and spec to yours and print off the details for each. Yes there are dearer cars but if the majority are cheaper then use them as they're the cars that will sell Quicker.

I wouldnt use the trade in value of the car as a basic for an appeal.
We all know main dealers offer very low values for car as trades. they could give you 14 for it and then have it on the forecourt the following week18 to 20.
Id be looking at donedeal for the same year same spec cars in comparison.

I used DD ads to back up my appeal, not exact but similar cars.
The original OMSP was €18,000, my calculations valued it at €12,900.
They recalculated and came up with €12,300, refunding me €150 more than I asked for.

Given the increasing number of secondhand imports both by individuals, middlemen and dealers, it will have an impact on Irish secondhand values if GBP/EUR keeps at current level. One of the principal reasons for this is Ireland is a small market and the overhang of available secondhand cars in the UK will impact on the Irish market. The VRT will never be directly based on the UK purchase price but as things stand at the moment, there is strong downward pressure on Irish 2-4 year trade in prices based on the availability of cars in the UK. I say 2-4 as that is the value point at which the costs of import etc mean little when compared with the savings.

I think the OP is a bot screwed as his car is both unusual and high mileage. The lack of a large number of comparable secondhand vehicles means that Customs will find it hard to get many datapoints for prices.

That puts the OMSP of yours at around €17k?

Yes revenue valued at 16K. It cost me €12K cash plus a 2005 Saab 9-3, so say €13k all in. I'm happy with that, new car is mint and love the DSG box.

Post. They will send a confirmation that they received your appeal. Takes about a month.
