Question(s) about the installation of Fibre Broadband

    Hi

I'm considering getting Fibre Broadband from Vodafone and have several questions for anyone who may already have it.

1: Will the installation people need to dig on the street outside my house?

2: Where on my house will the wire(s) connect to? It's a street house with the footpath directly outside the front door and has a laneway at the side between my house and my neighbours.

2: Will they be digging / drilling inside my house?

3: Can the line they install be put around the back of an 60 - 70ft long house and into the back upstairs room?

4: Are download speeds effected by number of uses inside the home and local area? (There will be 3 heavy users and 2 light users)

5: Are there any hidden charges that I need to worry about?

The Vodafone Fibre I'm interested in is supposedly €40 a month for 6 months and then €45 thereafter.

6: There is one of those green boxes about 100 yards away from my home. Is that the cabinet, and am I close enough to get decent download speeds?

7: I have had a previous provider (eircom/eir) but have ended my contract with them years ago (it wasn't Fibre). Will I need their UAN to apply for Vodafone's Fibre? Vodafone state you don't need a phone line.

8: How have your experiences been with Fibre Broadband? (Vodafone customers preferred)

    Thanks. Appreciate any answers.

Fibre is a bit of a misnomer. It's your bog standard telephone line that connects to a cabinet that has a fibre optic link back to where ever these things go. Other names are copper for the last mile, FTTC etc. There is whats called FTTH, fibre to the Home, but it's fairly limited at the moment.

Also fibre with Vodafone, Sky, Pure etc. is all just Eir's fibre resold.

I'm not a techy so apologies for the obvious inaccuracies but the gist is correct.

Incidentally Sky is €39 for 12 months at the moment, but look up awkward in the dictionary and there's a picture of Sky in Ballsbridge.

300m away will put you around the 80Mb mark.

They'll run it where practical. If the old poles or duct is missing damaged thats your problem to sort. Itll be a new line order so expect double the time to get up and running.

You dont need to care about neighbors usage but as always your line is shared between users in the house. Shouldnt be a problem unless somebody tries to download their entire Steam library.
