Thinking of getting this for my dad, will it work with Tesco Mobile here? and do you reckon for fear of having to consistently fix things for him on it - better to get a well known brand?

IIRC Tesco Mobile and all the providers who don't have a real network piggy back off Three and in some areas you'd be happy to get 3G nevermind 4G
This phone will only work with
    2G: GSM 850/900/1800/1900MHz
    3G: WCDMA 850/900/1900/2100MHz (HSDPA)
    4G: TDD-LTE B38/39/40/41, FDD-LTE 1800(B3)/2100(B1)/2600(B7)MHz

Hi there, Below are the frequesncy bands on Three:
4G-800MHz & 1800 MHz - so looks like it don't work on the 800 but does on the 1800 - YMMV
    3G-2100MHz & 900MHz
    2G-900MHz & 1800MHz

it depends on your Dad. If you want something idiot proof and rock solid you might look at something like the Motorola G4 Play but for some parents get an old Nokia, it's horses for courses

My Umi phone finally died on Thursday night after dropping the thing at least 30 times. I thought it was bulletproof but will go for this.

Using a windows phone at the moment and it's god awful.

So can anyone confirm what Irish 4G networks this phone will work on, and also the 3G ones?

Good chance of being hit for customs plus fee around €28 in total

Can be got potentially slightly cheaper with quicker delivery on E bay using PM,PW or Addresspal

    £100 or make an offer
