Play has been stopped in sport for a variety of reasons but I have never heard of it being stopped because of bees as it has been during an international cricket match between South Africa ad Sri Lanka today. Any other unusual reasons for sports events being interrupted?

Parachutist (had a parachute and also one of those fans on his back) interrupted a Riddick Bowe vs Evander Holyfield heavyweight title fight by landing on the ring apron in the middle of the 8th round. Got beaten unconscious for his troubles.

It was a training session not a match, but I think a camel on a hurling pitch in Wexford qualifies :D

Might not be bees, could be vuvuzelas

Snow stopped play in cricket in Buxton, Derbyshire in June 1975 - one of the hottest UK summers on record

Sunshine used to regularly interrupt cricket at Old Trafford. They ended up turning the pitch round to avoid the problem of low sun dazzling batsmen

Then there was the 3 legged alligator that stopped play in golf once

According to the BBC the bees found a home on a player's helmet

    Right Kock Up!!

Pity they killed the bees with the FE - no bees no pollination no grass no wickets! I like the way they went for the pretty pink helmet!!

Years back a huge hare stopped play f te Ryder Cup ( or similar) in Portmarnock! No shame on him & the world watching! Made Front page of the Irish Times !
