Couldn't find the existing thread so apologies for starting another one.

My E91 2008 auto just started rattling and I'm presuming it's the chain. It has 220k miles up so it's no surprise and I'm not overly disappointed. Question is, any idea of what it costs to sort it at this stage before it has snapped? I'll get it towed to my indy garage (Steve Murphy, MMW in cork). I can't get hold of him at the minute but hoping to get it in Monday but need a rough idea of what it might cost.

Just under 2k seems to be the general ball park here in Dublin.
Can be done for less and I've see higher quotes too.

Have you tried BMW for some goodwill?

With that mileage and an Indy service record that wouldn't be perfectly regular (but not bad either) would I have much hope of goodwill?

Nearly 10 years old and 350k km and you're looking for goodwil?

You certainly have an imagination anyway! :D

We got 100% goodwill on our 2008 E60 with 90k on the clock.
First 2 stamps were BMW and everything after that was documented Indy.

I also got the DSC unit replaced under goodwill on my old 2005 E90 with 121k miles on the clock at 6 years old.

How did you go about this? Is it a case of getting the job done and then seeking compensation? I'd much prefer if my mechanic did the job than hand it over to the main dealer (Keary's)

OP you can try for goodwill from BMW through a dealer but with 220k miles on the clock I think BMW won't entertain it. Costs nothing to ask though. If BMW approve goodwill then normally they would cover the cost of the parts but you would have to pay the labour and there is still a fair amount of labour involved. They would only authorize a dealer to do the work.

€1500 to €1900 is about the going rate from an independent these days.

Yeah I understand labour is the majority of the cost. I think I'll just save myself the hassle and let the mechanic I trust do the work. Thanks for all the help folks, much appreciated.

    Asked the dealer.
Murphy & Gunn got me 100% parts and labor on the E60 Chain.
Joe Duffy got me parts and 50% of the Kanpur on the E60.

Sorry OP, I read your post as 220km so maybe he mileage might go against you.

Nope, 220k miles so I'd imagine I wouldn't have much hope. As I said, car owes me nothing so I'm not too upset about it. She''ll get new discs and pads all around too so hope to knock another while out of her.

I bought the bits myself and got an indy engine specialist to fit. Cost €1,200 all in.

Hey - did you manage to get your mechanic or Keary's to look at the BMW? Do you mind letting me know how much?

I've a 2009 320D coupe N47 engine - I'm anticipating trouble so not enjoying the car much. I'm trying to sell it at the moment but that's not easy.
