    Hello !
I have recently returned home to Ireland after spending 6 years in Australia.
I acquired an Australian driving licence whilst over there and have swapped it for a full Irish car licence which I'm still waiting to receive from the NDLS ( could take 6-12 weeks they say:( )
Upon returning i bought a 2008 Range Rover HSE 3.6 Diesel. I am having a hard time finding car insurance, i cant even get a quote from companies. I am 25 years old, they don't take any Australian no claims or driving experience into consideration.
What is my best chances getting insured in this car ? would it be wise to have a parent insured in it and me go under them as a named driver or maybe they can get the insurance type where it allows anybody over the age of 25 with a full licence to drive their car ?

Any help is much appreciated i have been stuck renting **** cars which cost me a fortune for 2 months now.

    Thanks folks,
    Darren

If you are refused motor insurance
Individual insurers have the right to refuse you cover, but they must provide you with a reason for the refusal should you ask for one. However, even though you have been refused cover, you are entitled to go to the Declined Cases Committee of Insurance Ireland who will obtain an insurance quotation for you. In order for the Committee to consider your case you must first have sought and been refused quotations in writing from at least three insurers

If you really want to go down that road. I can imagine that quote DCCII source for you will be extortionate though. If you do go through them for insurance can you let us know what the quote was?

    3.6L

    That's the problem.

You need to find something with a max of 2000cc

They are not quoting you because (A) you are too young and no NCB and (B) because you bought a car at least twice the engine CC of regular cars.
They could quote you more than 5 thousand euro per year.

My advice is to swap the car for a small engined car until you have enough NCB to get a big engined car.

Try all the companies I have listed in the sticky thread "List of insurers"

Thanks for replies. It may be a 3.6L but you gotta think of the power to weight ratio also. Don't know why Irish insurance pay so much heat to engine size, i drove a 4.6 v8 turbo BMW x5 as soon as i was granted my provisional licence in Australia no questions asked !!!

I have tried the declined cases agreement using liberty insurance which was unsuccessful also i believe because my licence is still processing and i don't have a physical licence or ''licence number'' yet until i receive my licence in the mail.

I guess i will hold out for my licence to arrive and then try a couple companies or get a parent to insure it in their name and get under them as a named driver, Certainly i will be allowed on the policy as a named driver ??!?!

Well if an insurance company wont cover somebody what option have they got left, this country is a joke and everybody is copping it because of the morons and boy racers on the road causing accidents left right and centre.

    Go back to Australia then.

Age 25, male, high powered car, attitude issues. = extremely high risk.

delacent no attitude issues here just severe frustration.

    My plan is
Range rover will be put in my partner's name.
get insured in a smaller engine car with a 3rd party extension to allow me to drive other cars with permission of owner which are taxed and tested.
And you plan to use the range rover on a daily basis then?

Try a real broker, they have lots of options.
The online brokers can be ok, but there are specialist companies that might get you something.

Hi Bren, i want to go down the most legitimate route i can , money is not the issue i don't care if i get quoted 5-6k for the year, i just cannot even get a quote. Maybe its due to only having swapped my Australian licence over and still waiting on a physical Irish one.
Once i receive my licence i will call to several brokers and see if anybody will have a go !

Nothing illegitimate about it. The point I'm making is that the online engines are designed for the 80% of cases that are straightforward.

    Try calling these guys.
