Ford Ranger 3.2 reliability

What's the general consensus around these parts on the reliability of the 2011-2015 Ford ranger 3.2? I had more or less decided to go for a new Hilux, but I can't warm to the styling of the front. And the pricing is gone a bit saucy.

I saw a 2015 Wildtrak recently that looks great, and it drives nicely. But I've come across some horror stories online about reliability. My current Hilux (10 years old) never skipped a beat. I'd really appreciate some feedback from anyone driving a 2011-2015 Ranger.

I think the current facelifted version has the same engine, so any feedback on that would be appreciated too.

I worked in the mining industry here in Australia for 5 years. I've driven most things from Hilux, to Holden Colorado's (Izuzu Dmax), Rangers (same as Mazda BT50's) & Mitsubishi Tritons.

The company I used to work for had lots of vehicles I've mentioned above. Being in a remote part of the country our fuel was delivered to large bowsers. All the companies in the region would fill up at the bowsers.

Then a few vehicles started showing warning lights for water in the fuel filters so there was some contaminated diesel. The Hilux was an easy fix, just replace the fuel filter and as good as new.
The Ford Ranger was a different story. It was a $7k-$11k fix depending on the damage. Fuel pumps had rusted in them from the water contamination, possibly injectors needed looking at too.

I've read elsewhere, so not sure if it 100% correct that the rangers are difficult to do a home DIY oil change as the system can't be without oil for a a certain amount of time. There are articles about it online. It uses variable flow oil pump that can't reprime itself if left without oil for too long during service.

I will say the Ranger feels more solid and is probably a bit of a better drive than the Hilux, more power, betting interior, more toys but the Hilux has the longevity in my opinion. I've never had any major issue problems with the Hilux and they used to get worked hard on the job.

Thanks for the reply. Your comment above mirrors most other reviews I've read. The Ranger seems to be a better machine all round, and a nicer place to live in. But it doesn't have the reliability of the Hilux. I'd love to go for the Ranger, but am afraid of a major engine/turbo/gearbox issue. It would be great to hear from owners who can say they've put 100,000-200,000 km on their 3.2 Rangers without any issues.
