Hi

I have eir wifi broadband at home.
I failed to configure open dns on the modem I have.

Can I just buy a better modem and use it or is it more complicated than that.

If anyone can recommend a good modem for family use I would be very grateful.

Thank you

yes /no

you need to buy one that  will work with you line at home

I have NGB  (non-fibre) at home and bought a ADSL2+ router off amazon, as I found the wifi range on the one provide by eircom at time to be garbage
and used setting here
http://www.boards.ie/ttfthread/2056266188

to set it up took less than a min to do

for Eir Fibre you  need use the search box  what what settings and what kind of routers are compatible.

Eir will only offer help/support for the routers they provide.

not sure what model eir router you have but given a read through this

might help you

Hi  Lisha,

We wouldn’t be able to support this query fully as it’s a 3rd party modem. You would need to manually configure the modem by logging into it and imputing our settings, to gain internet access/connection to our server. You can view the settings below. Theres also a support page on the eir.ie website http://support.eir.ie/article/How_do_I_set_up_a_non-eir_Modem. One more thing if you are an eir fibre customer you would need to purchase a VDSL enabled modem.

You will need to ensure that the modem supports PPPoE (Point to Point over Ethernet), and enter the correct settings shown below.

Username: eir@eir.ie
Password: broadband1
Encapsulation: PPPoE
Multiplexing: LLC Based
VPI: 8
VCI: 35
Primary DNS: 159.134.0.1
Secondary DNS: 159.134.0.2

Thanks,
Pamela
