So as the title suggests, I'm looking for information on how to sand a basic timber staircase .it is absolutely manky from my mams big dogs up and down the stairs and wet shoes etc...It's black in places. I want to do this myself for her and was thinking of renting out a sander from bnq.
Iv read online its not as simple as sanding across, over the knots in the wood. And iv seen that some people would use a paint scraper?
Can Anyone give me advice on how to tackle this.

If dogs have been using the stairs it's more than a sander you need.

If it's all deep gouges and scratches it's a job for a planer or carpet it.
