HELP - totally non tech here to that doesnt help.

My father wants to be able to record from saorview onto something. I use Sky so have no idea how the saorview thing works tbh. Is it that the box shows both saorview and freesat and that these walker boxes only record the saorview?

    AGGGHHHH!!! Please help

You plug in USB stick at the back of the box and follow the onscreen menu with the remote control.
An extension lead will make the USB stick more accessible.
Your dad may have an instruction manual.

Yes, you can watch any Saorview channel thats not in the same mux as the channel being recorded. You can also watch any of the Freesat channels.

This is the only Saorview twin-tuner box that currently allows
    - watch 1 channel/record 1 channel
    or
    - record 2 channels/watch recorded programme

Mother got one of these from Powercity. It works fine, picture is brilliant.
