Another Soarview Reception Thread

    Hi All,

I have read many of the threads here in relation to Soarview Reception and there is some great info.

However I am a bit confused as I saw mention a few times - its digital so it should either work or not work. In other words there is no in between like analogue.

I got installer out last year to install aerial - purely because I assumed it would need to go on the chimney. However he just went into attic, cable tied an aerial to the joists and ran a cable and joined it with 4 way splitter to cable going to the TV. (I would have done this myself if I realized :) )

Seemed to work fine. Then started having problems with it not working every time TV was turned on. Fiddling with cable from wall to TV works after a while - but TV3 is more or less always there for eg but RTE 1 is always blocky/pixelated etc unless you are very lucky.

Are there any boosters I can get or way to check strength of signal? I have already bought a decent cable to go from TV to the wall socket. Suppose there could be issues with cable between there and the aerial.

Maybe outdoor aerial on chimney is the way to go.

    Thanks in advance.

With a digital signal there is an in-between where the picture breaks into blocks or streaks of colour across the screen.

Can you check the signal meter on the receiver for signal strength and quality readings, quality should be as close to 100% as possible. Also check cable and connections where accessible in the attic

Maybe just the actual socket? Check it's still a tight fit. In the past I have removed the 'guts' & just pulled the cable through from the wall, extending with f-connectors & joiner where necessary.

Check the TV's input socket too.

Thanks for the info. I didnt see anywhere on the TV settings where it might show signal reading unfortunately. I might see about replacing the other cabling and socket and see if there is any improvement.

Good suggestions above.Biggest improvements I got with one installation was by simply getting rid of those awful standard TV sockets and running the cable straight through or with F connectors, which are easy to fit.

Doing it that way removes shield isolation but that isn't normally an issue, and it allows power to go to masthead amps.

In the meantime, a visual inspection is always a good idea.

Quick update from my side - I have 2 Coax cables running in same conduit into a double socket faceplate. Once coming from Aerial and one from Sky box RF 2 output port.

I removed the cable from 2nd port on faceplate for a few days and any other cabling that was near the Soarview one and it was flawless.

When I connected Sky back up its flaky again - so maybe interference from the 2nd Coax cable....

Bit of a short cut-handy way out tying it to the joists.I have mine in the attic also, but the installer that did it bolted the proper aerial bracket to the gable wall.I never had any problems.

Can you post a pic of the rear of the faceplate.

What UHF channel is RF2 on and what UHF channels are the 2 Saorview muxes on, possible co-channel interference between the 2 feeds on a crappy faceplate.

Can you change the RF2 UHF output channel to somewhere in the 60s.

Switching off the Sky box will tell you if it's the source of any interference.

I'm assuming going by your OP, that the aerial is connected directly to the TV, rather than faceplate to Sky RF-in, Sky RF1 to TV?
