    Hi all,
We're getting married on the 28th of December this year and have most things booked except for the photographer. Since it's a very small wedding, we really only want the someone there for 2-3 hours so would anyone have suggestions on photographers that they may either have booked or used?

Whether you want them for 30 minutes or 12 hours, a photographer wouldn't be able to take another booking on that day, so they're unlikely to offer any kind of reduced rates.

There are different packages you can get with most photographers I've seen and all have different prices, as Faith said there probably wouldn't be huge savings as they still have to dedicate the day to you, some do the whole shebang getting ready, ceremony, right up to first dance, then some options of just ceremony, or just hotel etc.. it depends where you are, just google photographers in your area and their websites should give an indication of whether they do smaller packages - if not shoot them an email :)

Agree with comments above. You're not going to get a photographer to give a significant discount because it's only for a few hours or because its a small wedding. Yes, you'll get a bit of a discount and some photographers will offer more than others... but I'd say maybe you could expect 20% off full day rate... particularly since you're talking about the Christmas period when a) many photographers are on downtime and not pushed to do winter weddings with (sorry) bad weather and few hours of daylight and b) for those that are active, Christmas is a spike in an otherwise fairly barren period between November and February.

Whereabouts is the wedding? If I know any in the area I'll PM you their names.

Actually the week after Christmas is becoming one of the most popular weeks for weddings despite weather etc, photogs/ hotels and bands even are booked out 2 years in advance! Speaking from experience of starting to organise our December 2017 wedding in January 2016! :) I'd say finding one that isn't already booked is what will be the main question here.. You could always try a student/ part time/ new up and coming photog?

Your question really is a bit like "How long is a piece of string?"

The photographer has to build in time after the actual wedding date to edit and create books, etc and that time stays the same regardless of how many hours you want them at the actual wedding, so most likely prices won't change too much.

You also don't say where you are based, what your budget is or what kind of style you want. From experience, there is a HUGE difference when taking all these things into account. We looked at wedding blogs, googled "wedding photographer" and other words which captured the style we wanted and made a shortlist, then looked more in depth and about 10 photographers. We then booked one we loved. I didn't want posed photos, we're getting minimal group shots and no album. There'd be no point me booking a traditional wedding photographer for that, so you have to be smart how you research it.

Try searching for elopement package wedding photography.

We wanted someone for just 6 hours and no more so we've booked with this photographer couple and they charge in blocks (although minimum is 4 hours).

Hi Ghosty669. I don't know where you are based but I used a lady called Anita Ryan and she was brilliant. She was excellent on the day and I loved the photos which I have gotten already and I only got married on the 01st of Jan! I opted for the media only package so I got the photo's on a memory stick and I will put together my own album. I thought she was brilliant and very good value for money. I can PM you the details if you want?
