Two nights of bad diarrhea - up every two hours.
This started on Sunday, but got really bad Monday night.
She (small lab) got to the brown bin on Monday - nothing major, some chicken bones, uncooked chicken skin, butternut squash pips. Lots of diarrhea.

Took her to the Vet last night. Her temp is normal, she's not dehydrated, he checked her out and her vitals were grand. He gave us stuff for her stomach, and to bind her stool.

Last night was the same - every two hours looking to go out. Sounded woeful. (Farting liquid...)

I'm now concerned that ate a poisoned mouse (our neighbour had mice under their deck and puts poison in their shed).

We havent feed her since Monday evening. Was planning on giving her a small bit of boiled rice and boiled chicken this pm, but considering last night, I'm not so sure.

    Thoughts? Suggestions? Advice?
    Thanks.

Sounds like whatever she ate just didn't agree with her. If it's only the runs and no vomit, then it will prob just need to pass through her. Just feed something light like plain boiled chicken and rice as you say or some scrambled egg maybe.

Feed small amounts often at this stage to keep the gut nourished vets. I'd be feeding sooner rather than later too - it's already been 24 hours and vets nowadays don't recommend a long fast. Tree bark powder/slippery elm is very good for settling their tummies too.

Have you tried Hills I/D recovery pack? I always find it great if either of my two get sick like that. Seems to do the trick fairly lively!

She could be puking because her tummy is empty? I have to give one of mine supper in the evenings or he gets sick (bile/foam) during the night.

Shes Puking bile because her stomach is empty and most likely causing acid reflux

Did you feed your dog room temperature Chicken and boiled rice yet?

Just make a normal portion and divide it into 3

Feed each of the portions every hour and assess . so you are slowly building up her appetite

The bile is because her tummy is empty.
Try some chicken and rice with her but small portions - and make sure she is drinking plenty - if she stops drinking, straight back to the vets with her.

thanks folks, that very reassuring re the bile. we'll start her slowly.
Latest report is she tried to go for a poo but nothing came out. Fingers crossed thats the end of the "source".

Just a reminder, small portions of chicken and boiled rice for the evening.

If she handles that without issues you could continue normal portions and normal feeding time for 24/48 hours

Then back on the normal food

Same thing happened to my staff/lab cross - she got into the bin and ate some bones and had the most horrendous does of the runs for a few days after. She started having trouble during the night, so we came in in the morning and the place was destroyed. We were straight down to the vet and he reckoned it was most likely the bones. Apparently some dogs are ok with bones, but he told me that the marrow can be very rough on their tummies (he'd had one in recently who had the same reaction after a bone bought from the pet shop). We fed small portions of boiled rice and a little bit of plain chicken several times a day over the next few says until her poos returned to normal. Once the poos were normal, we went back to her regular food but did a 50/50 mix of rice to food for the first day or two just in case it set her off again.

Rawhide chews had this effect on our dogs. Were never on the menu again after that.

Sadly the same. ****s last night and today. No puking bile since we've started the food again.
The stomach medication just finished now. If she's up all night again tonight I'll take her to the vet tomorrow.

She grand other the the ****s. Taking water, in good form,...

Hi my dog had the same symtoms, extremely bad diarrhea, vomiting, not eating and lethargic took him to vet and taught it was upset stomach.
Continued for 3-4 days back to vet twice and turned out it was giardia.
A very bad dose of worms he was wreaked from it. we worm him regularly but vet said most wormers didnt cover it as not all that common. He also said he had seen a lot more cases of it lately so might be worth making sure its not more then an upset stomach.

So just an update: shes grand.

She had gotten worse on the Friday and I brought her back to the vet. He added wet food and told me to mix with the dry. Also to come back in the morning for blood tests.
When in on Sat, bloods checked out - nothing to worry about there.
By Monday she slept through the night.
Tuesday she was passing "solid" again. And looking for food - back to herself.

Just wanted to let you all know, and thank you all for your support advice etc..

    Thanks folks.
