Have a saorview TV up in the bedroom but I can only receive the Irish channels rte, tv3 etc. I'm just wondering is it possible to get free view UK channels such as BBC NI USB etc? I'm in Dundalk so close enough to the border...

Not sure but I think saorview and freesat are 2 different things, I'm sure you need freesat to get BBC etc but could be wrong

It's very possible. You need the right aerial and your house needs to be at good elevation with no obstacles between you and the transmitter.

Freeview is the UK equivalent of Saorview - terrestrial TV from transmitters.

Your Saorview signal should be coming from Clermont Carn which is to the NE while the (NI Freeview) Camlough transmitter is more directly north.

Do any of your neighbours have multiple aerials on the roof? What sort of aerial (indoor/attic/rooftop) are you using to pick up the Saorview signal?

In Dundalk? Plenty of houses that mustn't be much above sea level with aerials for NI, & pointing at Divis, so the odd hill/mountain presenting an obstacle.

I get UK Freeview on my Saorview tv tuner - based in Drogheda.

I'm in Rush Co Dublin and pick up the English Freewview channels on my smart tv with a roof aerial. Had the aerial on the roof from the old analogue days.
The tv has a built in freesat HD tuner so picks up the BBCs etc as well as the Saorview channels.

I can get Camlough and Divis (not the low power channels from Divis).

Even though Camlough shows a better footprint for Dundalk than Divis, where I am I get Divis stronger. From the analogue days my aerial had to be put up on a higher mast than my neighbours to get reception.

It can vary within a small area. Try the Camlough and Divis channels to see what comes in.

FreeView should be easily available in Dundalk since it's only a few miles from the north. Can pick up Divis here in south Meath so reception should be stronger in Dundalk?

Thanks for the replies folks. I'm not too sure what aerial is on the roof as I am living in rented accomadation.

With regards the transmitter codes above is it just a case of going to manual scan on the to and putting in the codes for camlough and divis ans see what comes in?

Yes as simple as that. Put in the channel nos e.g. for Divis - C21/23/24/26/27/29/33/34. I doubt you'll pick up C30 as its so low powered. I have trouble picking it up here in Moira just c15 miles from Divis and I believe it's also highly directional but from what I've seen nothing much worthwhile on it anyway.

Divis carries more channels than Camlough/Kilkeel/etc so unless the reception of the latter is significantly better in your area Divis is the best choice.

Channel 30 being the Belfast local TV mux., so would be a bit of a waste making it receivable that far south, & it's co-channel with 3 Rock, as is ch. 33.

I'm pretty sure interference most likely from from Mt. Leinster has been reported in Dundalk too, on chs. 23 & 26.

Mount Leinster blocks out loads of channels here from FreeView, very annoying.

The reception of the half power Divis muxes is not good, so the extra channels might be mirage most of the time.

It's not going to get any better, maybe worse from Sept 2019, as broadcast spectrum is further reduced and the same number of services squeezed in.
