Are there any plans for another competition for a subscription based tv service like the failed boxer proposal ?

I'd doubt it, rather late now with the online offering from Eir and Vodafone.

Is there any possibility of other channels joining the saorview line up.
    UTVi was a damp squib,

Any potential of something quality joining the line-up

At this stage I'd welcome bang babes :p

No. The availability of the excellent Freesat service combined with limited terrestrial capacity for 3 or 4 commercial muxes using current standards means a pay TV service isn't viable.

The switching off of terrestrial MMDS might have been an opportune time to launch a DTT lite pay TV service by UPC/VM but I guess it wasn't seen as economically viable.

    Is the pope Muslim ?

You'd think the Parish Priest would not need to ask that question :D:D

The problem here was that anyone who wanted to watch UK TV already had Satellite or Cable. And doing it with proper PVR boxes allowing multi channel recording and series link.

What is the penetration of FTA / Freesat here ?
That's the maximum possible market as it's hard to compete with a monthly cost of €0.00 unless you have niche channels and even then SKY and Virgin could strangle you at birth with competing offers to punters or rights holders. (there's even accusations of sneaky tricks like encryption cards being broken)

Remember BSB or TopTV or ITV Digital who all failed in a much bigger market where SKY and Cable had a much smaller market share than they do here.

Today your Pay TV market is also in competition with Netflix and other TV over broadband.

If you want to pay to watch Free To Air channels there's always
http://www.aertv.ie/channels/ - any idea what their viewer numbers are ? and do you think that's enough to roll out kit nationwide

Ibox TV possibly has a better selection, it also includes one of the Eir sports channels.
Subscriptions start from 3,7 or 10 Euro a month.

Ibox app can be downloaded from Google play store, so offers a good service on a smart TV.

Ibox also offers a couple of channels One can't get fta, Eir sports, Gold, Alibi, Eden and Food network, followed by the normal fta channels
