Claiming tax back

    Hi,

Just looking for some advice on claiming tax back in Ireland, I lived in Scotland for the past 6 tax years and always got some tax back at the end of the year and I was wondering if it would be possible here too as I only started working here at the beginning of march.

I entered my details into one of those tax back websites and they say I am owed 500 quid, I would like to avoid using these guys and do it myself to see if I am entitled to anything. How do I do this via revenue, I have registered for the ROS system here but I dont see any place to have possible tax back checked.

    Can anybody advise?

    Thanks in advance

if you have registered for PAYE My Account with Revenue you wait till you get a pin number and complete the registration. when you have received your P60 from your employer (should get it by 15th Feb approx) you can log onto your account and request a P21 Balancing statement. here you can claim back some medical receipts if you have any for 2016 - GP bills, prescriptions, only non routine dental work though (your dentist cantell you if any apply in this case). This will recalculate all your taxes/credits from 2016 and if a refund is due you will be issued with it fairly quickly. you don't get all the value of the receipts back but if you have them, you should make the claim.

Just to clarify too, ROS is for business purposes but PAYE Anytime is for ordinary employees. the first link below would be the one to use to register for non business employees.

    https://www.ros.ie/myaccount-web/register.html?execution=e1s1

use this link to read about claiming medical expenses

    http://www.revenue.ie/en/tax/it/leaflets/it6.html

Your right to stay away from the tax companies if you are a straightforward PAYE worker - its not that difficult to work it out yourself and no point in handing over a %

Hi - just requested my P21 for the first time (only started working in Ireland end of 2015) - do you have any idea on the turn around time for revenue getting back to you? If I wasn't owed (and didn't owe) any tax back would I still receive correspondence confirming this or do I check my revenue account online for confirmation?

    Thanks!!

It'll say it on the bottom of page 1 of the P21, in the Treatment of Result box, if you are owed money back, or if you haven't paid enough tax.

It takes up to 10 days for the p21 to issue in the Post, or 3-4 if you get it online
