Hi all, I am looking to replace an old Dell Windows 7 PC and 19" monitor with USB all-in-1 printer-scanner-fax for a family member.

Bricks and Mortar stores preferred. Soundstore, Expert, Argos, PC World/Currys, Harvey Norman, even Tesco etc.

    1. What is your budget? €700-900
    2. What will be the main purpose of the computer? Browsing, Email, MS Office, photo viewing, Revenue ROS transactions.
    3. Do you need a copy of Windows? Yes Win 10
    4. Can you use any parts from an old computer? No
    5. Do you need a monitor? yes 24 inch - or maybe a dual 22" monitor setup
    6. Do you need any peripherals? Wireless keyb and mouse. Also Wireless printer/scanner that I can print to from my iPhone as well as PC.
    7. Are you willing to try overclocking? no
    8. How can you pay? Cash preferred. credit card.
    9. When are you purchasing? next 2 weeks
    10. If you need help building it, where are you based? no help needed.

I don't mind sourcing the PC base, monitors and printer in different shops.
What is out there in terms of value, bargains etc. ??

Would a good i5 with 8GB RAM and 500GB SSD work?

I know you said retail preferred but if you were open to buying a pre-built machine online, you will save a lot of money. Your budget is quite generous for those uses, so an i5, 8GB, SSD based machine with dual monitors will still leave you some change.

An i5 isn't necessary, even an i3 would be generous for those uses with a lifespan of the best part of a decade.

I'd second the above. Retailers will make you pay through the nose for that 500GB SSD in particular.

Why go i3 when a Pentium G4560 offers 95% of its performance?

Also regarding screens: if you have space for 2x22", you probably have space for an Ultrawide.

Thanks for the replies so far.

Sorry folks, but it will have to be bricks and mortar stores for this person I'm afraid.
Are there any good deals on PC base, monitors, printers at the moment?

What is an acceptable speed of i3 to go for? I'm out of touch on these things. My old PC uses an i3 2120 3.3GHz for example from a few generations ago.

Ah, you've got one of "those" family members ;)

I'd go to Elara so, and get something like this HP 280 G2 Micro tower .
    Core i3-6100, 256Gb SSD, 4Gb RAM, Windows 10 Pro 64, optical drive.
    €493.97 Incl Vat

Can add another stick of DDR4 later down the line, and/or another HDD.

    Pair with a 24" monitor (from €130) or 27" (~€190).

    Thanks K.O.Kiki.
Any suggestions on a printer/scanner that can do what I need it to do.
Print emails from PC, iPhone etc.
Preferably low running costs for printing invoices etc.??

Wouldn't have the foggiest, I imagine Dell/HP though.

Personally I hate all printers/scanners equally & would ban them from my personal office (if I had one).

Regarding a printer/scanner with Wifi and 4 cartridges that can print from phone/tablet as well as PC:

    Would this one be ok?
    HP Officejet 6950.

Amazon is handy for reviews. The postage means its to expensive to ship. Or put the model number and review into a search engine to see what other people think.
