Basically I went to a a suckler farm, for my ag trip, but it is not the farm I am basing my project on, my farm is a dairy farm with the only breeds being Aberdeen Angus and Frisians. Interviewed the suckler farm on the whole brexit situation and how it could affect farmers and this is what he had to say:

I asked ...'s father on his input with the whole Brexit situation and how it affects him and farmers alike. He said that he was very fearful of it, as UK was a lovely market for Irish farmers. It was next-door, right in the middle of everything, with serious amounts of exports going to it. The danger now was for him they could put a tariff on since now they are gone out of the eu and Ireland are still in the eu, thereby increasing his costs, hence lower profit earn which will ultimately lead to less export to the UK.
He showed concern on how Brexit could clean him out as now, he and other farmers alike will have to find new markers. Even though Ireland has opened markets in turkey, they are hoping for Libya, but he believes the market next door was so valuable for us, because of the less cost of transport into the uk compared to sending cattle to Libya
He added that the the major concern as a suckler farms, is that he is afraid the sucker cow will disappear because she may not be viable going forward beef price drops much more, it won’t pay them much to produce it. ‘’Costs of keeping the cow is 800E per year, making no money, how do we pay for fertiliser? Keep the family going?’’. Suckler cow could be in jeopardy and its because of the UK, he doesn’t know where are heading, no one does, because its really down to the uk saying if we go to brazil and we can get it for cheaper, no mind the quality. Biggest headache we have in the minute, as we do not know what going to happen. Like I’m here looking at ordering bulls straws from ai wondering what I’m doing here. Losing money on everything, he produces. Totally depending on the envelope he gets from eu, ‘’if I did not get that id be gone out of business. Everything I produce here I’m selling for less then cost.’’ And that’s the way farming is going, people look at the envelopes farmers are getting making 1000s of euro, if we didn’t get that we’d be gone out of business. Its only used for farming not surplus.
Ireland is seen as across the world of producing excelling quality food down to baby formula. We are very good at producing baby formula. Chinese market is v good for us atm for baby formula until Chinese govt put in a ruling as we all know every women can only have one baby, so Chinese govt bringing ruling u have to breastfeed for first 5 months. Glanbia spending millions on plant just specifically on producing baby formula, but the whole thing could be on jeopardy we are so depended on everyone else
Teagasc launched its ‘Road Maps to Better Farming 2020. We want every farmer to produce 40 50 percent more, thankfully we didn’t listen as now we would have been in serious trouble

But I wanted to basically transform this into the my own farm, would it still make sense just substituting the suckler with dairy products, because he does have an aberdeen angus and that would surely be sold for meat, so I could mention the meat market aspect in there aswell.

I'd ignore the last parragraph atleast, china reversed the one child policy and it only affected Han chinese anyway.

Why didn't you just do your ag visit to your father's farm or just go visit another dairy farm??
