Where to buy fireguard mesh?

I have recess lights in my upstairs bathroom with attic above . My problem is we have cluster flies in the attic every summer and they are drawn to the recess lights and die in there so after a while I end up with a large number of flies in the glass which covers the light, very unsightly and a bloody nuisance . Anyways i'my looking for some fine metal mesh like fireguard mesh that I can shape to make a cover over the recesses.

    Any suggestions.

Would it be an option to put downlight covers on them ?

If you have access to them from above this is the easiest solution

You can buy small rolls of fine mesh wire in B&Q and I think I have also seen it in Woodies.

Never heard of downlight covers , Quick Google and they would do but not sure I have clearance for those on two of em so I'll try the mesh first.

I had a look in b&q but couldn't find anything , I'll ask them when I'm in there tomorrow.

    Thanks for the replies ppl.

B&Q also have different sizes of mesh sheets it's usually where you buy rope and metal rods.

I've seen very fine mesh for sale in my local builder's providers, used as an insect screen for soffit ventilators, rainscreen cladding etc. You can by it off a roll, as little or as much as you need.

    .

B&Q wanted €40 for a 3ftx2ft sheet of mesh, a little bit expensive me thinks.

Might be exactly what I need, was it a builder provider chain or just your local ? Any idea of the exact name for the stuff so I can ring around ?

I don't know where you are, I'm in the midlands, so bought it from Telfords, but it should be available in any decent providers. It's just an insect mesh, I believe it's stainless steel, fine weave.

No but could resist progress of flies. Just an idea.

I'd say you would get cheapo ones from Dealz or Mr Price rather than HS&M who have nice stuff but it isn't the cheapest.

Just a follow up got some aluminium fly mesh in a local hardware store used in dairy's to keep flies out of all things. 1meter by 0.6m was €15 cut off a roll.

    Cheers All.

Nice source, saw the stuff in B&Q this evening and super expensive alright. What was the hardware store or where are you based, will be looking for something similar in a couple of weeks so no harm in giving the hardware store a plug after providing good value.
