A Marquee Wedding and Electrical Requirments

Hi All, We are having our wedding in June and I'm trying to sort out what power supply is needed.

I have found the local hire company will do a 100kva (supper silent and more than enough power) generator delivered and collected for €185 plus €100 for more than enough fuel. The electrician needs to wire it in and will give me a fix price job if i can get a list for him.

We'll have the catering, band, lighting and toilets of this generator. I know what the catering need and I'm waiting on the band to get back to me (not sure if they, are fully sure themselves). The lighting is very small amount of power but I have no idea of the requirements for the toilets.

The marquee supplier is doing the toilets but I think he is closed today for me to ask him. they are a 120person VIP trailer setup.

So has anyone go experience in this and know what these would require?

It may well work out cheaper to hire the setup complete but i'm going to follow this first to find out.

From being in a band I looked at this before when asked to play at pop up marquee gigs.
100kva is equivalent to 80kw which is way more than what an average band would need.
IIRC, If you were to add up all the bands equipment, even if theyre a big function band I cant seem them needing more than 7-8kw with an average of about 5kw, (unless the electrical guy I spoke to at the time was wrong with his maths)

What electricity do you think the toilets would need?

I got speaking to the Marquee supplier and he was near bang on with what he thought of the bands needs he said 6kw so that around what you said. The toilets need 2kw and the same for lights. The carter told us in plugs they need as in one 16amp and four 13amps

150KVA is what I would recommend for a band and only for a band. Genny's that are hired out can be shocking quality when it comes to live bands. Everything is great till the bands subs start sucking power and cause issues. A 100KVA running all that will work all day long till the band starts and then you will have issues.

I've had to run 100ft AC runs to the nearby house to pull a gig off.

Also bear in mind that most bands probably don't carry the correct connections for hooking up to a genny. If the band are getting a phase to themselves then they will need to be told if its 3phase or single phase. Best to get them to talk to the electrician.

The band will requires 13amp plugs.

I would not try get this wrong, could be a disaster when it comes to the band starting. If a band does require 6kw, then give them double. Hitting the requirement on the head leaves no room for error. I've done many outdoor events, gennys are temperamental.

This is definitely a more comprehensive answer than mine. Plan for the worst.
