A truly amazing actor. His portrayals of Winston Smith in 1984 and Quentin Crisp in The Naked Civil Servant will never be forgotten.

Amazing as the Bird O'Donnell in The Field.

The head on him eating the sandwich in The Field. A class act.

He seemed genuinely upset when it was revealed that he had no Irish heritage. It was a badge of pride for him for so long. He loved Ireland.

I wonder if the Alien that burst out of his stomach will be on the telling today speaking of their working relationship. Must be all grown up now.

This is sad news, Hurt was a wonderful actor and many his performances were milestones in my own evolving love of cinema.
I probably first became aware of him as a kid watching the Storyteller, he had a voice like warm treacle and I could listen to him read the phone book.
