How many positions are you hiring for?

I have an interview coming up next week with eBay and I've already seen a few posts here by people who also have interviews so I can reasonably assume they're calling in a good few people. Since hiring and training is expensive I'd like to believe large companies like eBay would hire a few at a time, and partly because I don't want to be told again there was someone more qualified ahead of me. So would it be unreasonable to ask in the interview if they're only hiring 1 person for the role or if they're hiring several? I would take off the pressure some what if I knew I had a 5 in 10 chance as opposed to a 1 in 10.

What's the role? Yes often big companies hire in batches. If its sales or customer service etc they generally need a bunch of people at once.

Don't forget that even if you don't get it this time, you could get it next time. Twice I have got knocked back initially but gone on to get a job in that company - even a better one.

It's always a relief to be coming in as part of a batch as they are more likely to have a formalised training structure for you rather than expecting you to adjust.

At the same time asking the right question about training may give you the exact answer as to how many people they are bringing in.

it really depends on what the role is.
If it is a general role they are probably hiring in batches but if it is specialised I would not expect them to be hiring no more then 1 or 2 .
