    Folks,

Played up in the Atlantic Coast Challenge last year and had a great time despite the weather when playing Carne.

Just wondering what other competitions of a similar nature are available to play in this year providing its not too late to book.

    Advice / Suggestions welcomed :)

Would love to do a Donegal one this year.

But the one there is nearly 600 euro.

    Accommodation is included.

But feels expensive ? - not sure what price I was expecting

The site feels like they are targeting tourists - we are not really tourists - must look up the clubs own website and see can you enter event that way.

Looking at the those fees for the Social Media Links and the Donegal Links Classic I suspect they are including premium level accommodation plus their own fee

It certainly seems cheaper to book through the organisers directly

e.g. SM Links is 370 euro for 4 nights and 3 games but they are charging 535 sterling

    Yes - Seemed too expensive.

Do Social Media do Donegal Paulo - I would do Sligo again - but if you're putting that much time and effort and leave in - for me, worth moving on to next Links leg.

Hope to do most of them in 3 batches

    Donegal
    Clare
    Kerry

Maybe not enough in Clare for a trip. I've played Lahinch.

He doesn't do Donegal but does a Kerry tournament with Tralee, Dooks and both Ballybunion courses. Already booked out for 2017 however

http://www.donegallinksclassic.net/ is the Donegal tournament from that list. 125 euro for 3 rounds in Portsalon, Ballyliffin and Rosapenna.
Travelling up that far you would nearly want to stay an extra 2 days just to play both courses at Rosapenna and Ballyliffin

Anybody interested in entering a boards team in the Donegal event?
Format is both a singles and team event. 4 on a team with 3 best cards to count each day.

    I'd be on -

    What date is that Paulo.

It gets a bit confusing all the events with similar names and ideas.

Also any link to actual event ?

Great value - that is more like it.

Know feck all about golf in Donegal - where would you stay. Town wise.

Youd want a 1/2 decent town on a Monday to Wednesday ?

The website says that there are preferential rates for a hotel in Rosapenna.
Letterkenny is another option but I don't anything about either place

    Ok -
we will check it out - or if someone can post an idea.

Maybe we will get 2 teams in.

Only thing is it is mid week.

I don't think you'll get a "happening" town in Donegal on a Monday to Wednesday night folks.

You'll get moe pubs in letterkenny because there are more pubs but you'll do well to run into a crowd.

Rosapenn's hotel is sound. A bit old style in places but good food and lovely people. The village of Downings is only a 5 minute walk away and the Harbour Bar is absolutely class there (but I'd imagine it's quiet midweek).

It's only a 15-20 minute run from there to Portsalon.

Ballyliffin is about an hour from there and politely is in the back of beyond. Buncrana is relatively close to it if you're looking company, but again it's midweek in Donegal.

Letterkenny sounds the most promising - if that is on ?

But not at the sacrifice of the golfing logistics (I guess) ?

Anyway once there is a 1/2 decent boozer we will be grand - golfers are the easiest people in the world to talk to and they can simply talk nonsense about shafts for hours on end. :D

Anyway - we are all getting older now and a beach walk, yoga , Jason Day pre round, closed eyes, shot routines will be the way - and yes, our old pomegrante smoothies to activate the glutes pre round. :P

I like old school places - something always alluring about a harbour bar.

The three courses are quite remote from each other. I would think letterkenny would be your best chance of a bit of life, the cottage among othersome would be to your liking fix. The ideal would be to drive up to donegal town morning of golf then 2 nights in letterkenny which is only 45mins away from portsalon and ballyliffen.
I might be interested in this myself if I can organise the time off.

The Harbor in Downings is a true gem. Played Rosepenna a few years back. After day one on the Old TM found the bar in the club house was closed so popped up to The Harbor bar for a post round drink.....fell into the bed at about 3 AM...still with the golf shoes on! Found myself 2 over after 14 on Sandy Hills the next day..lost a ball...sobered up...and finished 8 Over!

Interested in this as well if someone is putting a team together. Letterkenny is the best option for a town to stay in. 1 hr to Ballyliffin and 30 min to both Portsalon and Rosapenna.

The Lough Erne Links Challenge is worth a look, I played it 2 years ago. I think it was approx. €150 at the time, golf only. This link is only showing golf and accommodation prices https://www.thegolfpa.com/ireland-amateur-tournaments-lough-erne-links-challenge

For me it was a nice balance, I'm a big fan of links golf but after Murvagh and Narin & Portnoo on day 1 & 2, it was nice to finish it off on what I think is the best parkland I've played (I had a stormer so that helps shape my view).

We stayed in Donegal for 2 nights and in Lough Erne itself (rented an apartment) for the final night.

Edit: Golf only was €140 last year. A bargain imo.

This is old (December 2011) but most of the details are still accurate. There are at least two new tournaments (Carlow and one with Knightsbrook) - it's time to update itI guess.

Murvagh is one of my favourite courses, loved it

New one up in Rosepenna and Portsalon.

Seams to be residential only but not the worst value when you include the odd dinner and drinks
