Hoping to get married in 2018. Not doing the big traditional wedding. Thinking of family dinner in Shelbourne for 20 in total. Other half would like to get married in Church. Can you recommend any city centre Catholic churches in the area? Given the size of the wedding party a smaller church would be ideal.

    Thanks in advance

What about University Church on St. Stephen's Green? It's a beautiful church inside and perfectly located for retiring to the Shelbourne for dinner afterwards :)

Thank you Miamee for your response below. I will take a look into the University Church. Do you happen to know if you need to bring your own priest?

If either of you are graduates of TCD you can get married in the chapel there.

Neither of us went to Trinity. I originally had looked into getting married in Maynooth college chapel as I had graduated from there but was told it was not allowed. Thank you for the feedback.

You don't need to be a graduate of UCD to get married there. There is a fee and you need to bring your own priest. Drop them a line with your date. If you are having troubles with getting in touch try Westland row as their parish office and Notre Dame are now involved in running it.

Great thank you. I will give them a call in the morning and discuss availability.

We got married there last year... Great church.

The woman that works there is really nice.

We brought our own priest - I'm not religious but he was a friend of my wife's.

MAke sure that people know it's University Church and not the Unitarian one... one of our guests arrived there late and was sitting in the pews at the back. It wasn't until the priest said the name of the couple that she realised her mistake.

And when I was standing outside University Church before our wedding, a few couples were about to come into our ceremony until I directed them across the Green.

Thank you for the information below. We are now thinking of moving our dates up to August of this year. Hopefully it's not too short of notice.

Also thank you for heads up on possible confusion on the Unitarian church.

Just spoke to lovely lady in the Church and she is going to check on the availability for us.

    Afternoon all,

While I am waiting on the University Church to call me back I just a quick few follow up questions - did any of you have any problems finding a priest to marry you in the University Church?

We are based in Meath and not there that long to have a parish priest we could ask.

Also do you need a letter of freedom from every parish you lived in since 18yrs of age? I was in the US for years so not sure how I could obtain such letters.

Hi all, got my date confirmed with the church. All sorted. The lady was extremely helpful and lovely to deal with.
